Holly's Garden Rescue

Holly's Garden Rescue Holly's Garden is a small breed rescue shelter holding many dogs in severe conditions. We nurture the All rest in Holly's Garden. Susan Cuervo

Holly's Garden came about when my dog Hollywood crossed the bridge. I created a special garden for her to rest and Holly's Garden was born. Since then I have also lost my male Buckie and their children Curly and Katrina. Their true, unconditional love taught me what life is about and the importance of giving, forgiving and caring for one another. They were, and continue to be the truest, purest fo

rm of love I have ever known. I started this rescue in their honor, hoping to give life and love to their kind as they did me. My current dogs, Paris and Josee, have taught me the importance of rescue. I was so blessed to be able to adopt them from Lhasa Happy Homes. The lesson is how with patience and love you can transform a life, give it new light, and renew their trust in human kind by extending friendship and compassion. For their souls are special and deserving - Man's Best Friend. There are thousands of animals put down every year in San Diego County due to no fault of their own. These are good dogs that pay the price because we humans don't have the time, patience, or desire to give them the loyalty and love that they give us. It is our hope at Holly's Garden to take in and save as many of these beautiful animals as possible and find them forever homes and that you will continue to support us in this effort. We thank you for thinking Rescue.

UPDATE: SPLINTER was euthanized by OC Animal Care 12/05/2025 💔

SPLINTER is on the EUTH LIST at the ORANGE COUNTY, CA SHELTER. He needs a RESCUE COMMITMENT by 4:30pm on 12/04/2025 or he WILL BE EUTHANIZED.

SPLINTER is a 2 year old, 68 lbs., neutered German Shepherd that came into the Orange County shelter on 11/17/2025 when the police called to have him picked up after his "owner" ran away to avoid being arrested and left him tied up. SPLINTER has a microchip and came in neutered, but no owner has come forward despite the shelters attempts to contact them.

Per the Animal Control Officer that picked him up, SPLINTER tried to snap at him while being pulled off the truck. He was stoic and aloof in clinic, with no growling or flailing but very stiff body language. SPLINTER was muzzled in the clinic for his intake exam.

Shelter Notes:
* 11/18/2025: At back of kennel, barked when attempting to coax forward. Dropped door and went to back of kennel to engage with. Dog quieted, then pushed against gate to sniff me.
* 11/21/2025: Howling loudly at back of kennel while laying down. Approached and attempted to call forward. Dog immediately ceased howling and began to alarm bark at me, standing up with hackles rising. Dropped treats, ended interaction.
* 11/26/2025: Behavior unchanged over weekend.
* 11/26/2025: Upfront barking. Eyes not dilated at first. Would sniff my hand and then began to bark again. Went from uncertain body language to tense body language quickly. Did not respond to treats. Jumped down from bars and began barking more intensely. Does not want to be approached or handled at this time.
* 11/27/2025: Behavior unchanged.
* 11/29/2025: Low growling and stiff body in kennel. Lip licking and hard contact towards my movement.

Shelter Behavioral Summary:
Unable to handle safely. Due to his intolerance to handling and recorded bite attempt, we will not be able to safely show to the public. Suggest placement with rescue.
