We had a family day and finally got this water-loving dog in the water! šŸ’¦šŸ¾

One of the things I’ve been working on with her is directional send-outs. Using the water has actually been a great way to build that skill—helping her understand ā€œLOOKā€ and teaching her how to take direction from a distance.
It’s been a fun, real-life way to start putting those pieces together for Clara.

Clara’s new shoes came in and she is very excited about them!

If your dog will be on pavement this summer, hitting the trails as your hiking buddy, or is a service dog in training—now’s the time to start introducing boots. Just a few minutes a day goes a long way.

These Ruffwear boots have already improved Clara’s traction so much—no more sliding on grass!

Who else uses boots for their dogs?

Does anyone else get way too excited about new dog gear showing up… or is it just me? šŸ˜‚

I just ordered Clara’s new shoes—Ruffwear Ridgeline Dog Shoes—and they shipped today!!
I’m way more excited than I probably should be, but I can’t wait to get her started in them and see how she does.

Throwback to Basil when she was a service dog in training, rocking her Ruffwear gear!

Shoutout to everyone with the ā€œhard dogsā€ā€”
the ones with quirks, reactivity, anxiety, or even past trauma.

Thank you for standing by them.
Thank you for putting in the work.
And thank you for not giving up on them.

I’m grateful to be part of your journey. 🐾

This little girl has been through a lot of trauma in her life… and look at her now—thriving.
This is what not giving up can do.

Starting this week off with quite the lineup—Norwegian Elkhound, Rottweiler, French Bulldog, and a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever.

I always forget to take pictures… so owners, please send them my way! šŸ˜‚

Getting to work with so many different breeds is one of my favorite parts of this job. Every dog is a little different, and that’s what makes it so fun.

In the meantime, here’s a picture of one of my favorite German Shepherds being an absolute clown

If I could tell you to buy ONLY two things for dog training it would be...

A simple collar.
A 4-foot leash.

That’s it.

No gadgets. No shortcuts.

Because the best training tool isn’t equipment—it’s clear communication and trust.

And seriously, it will save you some money!

If your dog could plan their dream spring break, what would it include?

Update: The major work around the property is finally done! What started as a small issue turned into a pretty massive plumbing project… which then turned into a landscaping project on top of that.

Because of all that, some of the group classes I had hoped to run this summer won’t be happening.

The good news is we’re getting back to regular training and lessons moving forward. If you’re waiting to hear from me and haven’t heard back within the next week, please feel free to reach out and check in.

Thank you all for your patience while we worked through this!

Big win tonight! Tell me your latest win!

For the first time since my flare up… I felt like myself again.
Clara and I celebrated by practicing our fun heeling routine in the shop. 🐾

This week also marked 2 years since I got out of my wheelchair, which honestly feels pretty amazing to say!!!

The backyard currently looks like a 12-foot gopher tunneled through it thanks to our plumbing adventure… but hey, I’m upright and kicking (while being told to take it easy).

I’m hoping to return to lessons next week at a limited pace. Thanks for sticking with me while things have been a little chaotic around here.
Now I want to hear yours — what’s your latest win?

Quick update for everyone šŸ’›
I’ve been dealing with a chronic illness that forced me to take some unexpected time off recently. The good news is I’m healing and moving in the right direction.
Just as things were starting to improve, we ran into a major and very unexpected plumbing issue. We have workers here working on it, but for now it means our training space and fenced area are temporarily unusable.
Thank you all so much for your patience, kindness, and support while we work through this. It truly means a lot to me and I’m very grateful for this community. I’m looking forward to getting everyone back to training as soon as everything is fixed and safe to use again.
I’ll keep you posted as we make progress!
