Team Evergreen showed out again!!! We all had an amazing time at the Evergreen State APBT Club 3 pull/3 show weekend!! 💥💥

We had several client/team dogs there competing and we could not be prouder!!! Everyone did so great 😁

Results: ⬇️

Jynx - APBT owned/handled by Julie
Pending ADBA approval Jynx achieved the 24 pts he needed to earn his first ADBA title of ACE!! How exciting!! Julie has campaigned him hard all over the US and earned several hard firsts, a MWPP under the ADBA president Hank Greenwood and this weekend swept the 55 to 65 lb class!! We are so proud and look forward to competing against him in ACE class!! Great work, Julie! 🥇

Kaiser - Jagd Terrier owned and handled by Renee and Phil!! Coming in as the smallest dog in the ACE 45 and Under and he did not disappoint! Friday he took 2nd to an experienced APBT, Saturday he came out hard and earned his first ACE class lb for lb!! Sun he made his longest pull to date, 32 seconds and took a very hard earned 2nd! 3 wps, 3 placements in ACE class and one of them a trophy!? That is an awesome weekend for this small fry, picking up 39 pts towards his Ace of Ace! 🎉

Nora - APBT owned/handled by Doug. Coming off that impressive 32 second pull in Oregon a few weeks back, Doug gave her some time off, let her chill on Friday and came in hard on Saturday!! She took her class in wp (35 to 45) and a 2nd and 3rd in confo. Sunday, Nora came out to play with the big dawgs! She secured her first ADBA lb for lb trophy then came back in on the next weight and made a wildly impressive 39 second pull!! This little girl has so much heart!!! She also took another 2nd in confo to round out her amazing weekend! Awesome work, Doug! 🏆

Ripp - APBT owned/handled by Doug and Julie. Ripp is just a young dog yet and this was his first ADBA pull. He is so enthusiastic and loves pulling!! He did amazing. Though he couldn't pull off a placement in that tough 45 to 55 lb class he did make some impressive pulls for a baby, and we look forward to seeing him reach his potential! 🐾

Freak - AST owned/handled by Rae. Freak is still itching to compete in top dog, but that will have to wait until Nationals. This weekend she came in at 49 lbs, smacking her right into the biggest wp class - 45 to 55 and 7 dogs. She worked her butt off, stuck to her strategy and snuck in 3 3rds!! She cleanly beat several dogs each day and is inching towards her ACE title. Freak's father was an ADBA ACE and it would be cool to see the next gen titled too. 😈

Sender & Terry B. - Irish Setters owned/handled by Angela. These 2 boys are so fun and beautiful! They came out to play on sunday and have some fun with the Pit Bulls! Terry B was in a tough class of 4 dogs and couldn't pull of a placement but he had fun and that is the most important part! Sender made some nice pulls and earned himself a 1st place in the 75 to 85 lb class. Congratulations! 💪

Myson - Boerboel owned/handled by Sherri. Myson is a huge puppy and he loves pulling for his Mumma. There was some family stuff going on and these pulls all came from the heart. Myson not only pulled off 3x 1sts in the 95 and over class but he won all 3 MWP awards earning an additional 10 pts each day! Myson needs just 31 more points until his ADBA ACE title! I don't think many Boerboels have it! How exciting! 🏆🏆🏆

Zoe - SBT owned and handled by Leah. Zoe is such a little beast, coming in at 33 lbs and in a pretty tough little dog class, she held her own. Its tough competing against dogs bred for the sport, especially with an off breed, but Zoe is a strong little thing and she has the most important weight pull trait - heart. She pulled off 2x 2nds and 1 3rd and made a beautiful pull to end her weekend. Awesome work, Leah. 🔥

TEAM CANADA BULLY - Ryker, Katara and Maki owned and handled by Carla and Darcia. These guys drove all the way from Canada to hang out and pull dogs. Katara has pulled ADBA before with Tim handling her, but this the boys first time and Darcia and Carla's first time(s) as well. All 3 were in the same class (65 to 75) so that was pretty fun. Maki took 2x 1sts and a 2nd, Ryker 1x 1st and 2x 2nds and Katara took 3x 3rds. What an absolute blast this family had! Great job ladies and bullies! 🇨🇦❤️

Thank you to all the team members who pitched in with the brick moving, cart handling, p**p and garbage pick up, bringing stuff for the pot luck, and being great advocates for treating the dogs with love and kindness and for dog sports in general. We are so proud of you all!!!

What an absolutely amazing time at last weekend's 4th of July Show & Pull weekend hosted by the Beaver State APBT Club, in Madras, Oregon!

We had several client/team dogs there competing and we could not be prouder!!! Everyone did so great 😁

Results: ⬇️

Kaiser - Jagd Terrier owned/handled by Renee & Phil.
Pending ADBA approval the FIRST Jagd (and our first client dog!) to achieve the title of ACE. He achieved this friday night then moved into the ACE class and took 2x 2nds!! He was also awarded the overall Judge's Choice award from the entire weekend! Amazing job!

Jynx - APBT owned/handled by Julie.
Jynx never disappoints and he always tries hard. He has done so well for Julie and he is closing in on a well sought after ACE title. He took a 2nd on friday and then came out to play sat and sun and sn**ched 2x 1sts in the 55 to 65 lb class. Great work!

Nora - APBT owned/handled by Doug.
Nora, Nora, Nora. What a little beast. Nora pulled sat and sun (and showed!) and she blew everyone away. Sat was tough competition against 2 dogs bred for the sport and she took a well earned 3rd. Sun she came out and made a mind blowing 30 second pull (video in comments) for Doug to sn**ch her hardest earned ribbon to date, a 2nd in the 35 to 45 lb class. Unreal work, Doug. She also took 2x 2nds and a 1st in conformation.

Freak - AST owned/handled by Rae.
Freak is definitely more a high twitch dog and Top Dog is where she shines, but she loves her Mumma and will do anything for her. Pair that together with Rae's incredibly hard work and you have a dog that is ever improving in weight pull! Freak made her longest and hardest pull to date (17.87 seconds) and took 2 well earned 2nds in the 45 to 55 lb class. Then she competed in the fun mill race event and had a blast opening up on the mill and going FAST!

Red - APBT owned by Hector, handled by Rae
Red is the newest team member and she was pulling and showing this weekend! Her very first ADBA show! Red engaged and made some nice light pulls this weekend. She took 2x 1sts in the 25 to 35 lb class. She also took 2x 2nds in conformation!! What a great start to her career!!

Sender & Terry B. - Irish Setters owned/handled by Angela.
These 2 boys have some big personalities and are so fun to watch! Angela is a senior weight pull judge for the UKC, and we always want to be bridging the gap between the communities and we encouraged her to bring the boys to play with the bulldogs! Both dogs pulled great and made some nice pulls each. BOTH took 2x 1sts (fri and sat) in their respective classes. 16 pts each towards their ACE titles. Great job, Angela!

Myson - Boerboel owned/handled by Sherri.
Myson is a big, beautiful young dog and he loves to pull!! He is a work in progress on his starts, but once he puts it all together he is going to be a force!! This was his first ADBA show (and Sherri's!) and he wasn't even phased. He took 3x 2nds in the 95+ class to another beautiful Boerboel bred by Coldriver. We are so proud of you, Sherri!

Thank you to all the team members who pitched in with the brick moving, cart handling, p**p and garbage pick up, bringing stuff for the pot luck, and being great advocates for treating the dogs with love and kindness and for dog sports in general. We are so proud of you all!!!

Throwback Thursday to an old post we did 🤘

Let's talk about dragging weight!!

Dragging weight is something that any dog can do!! Even if you have no aspirations of competing in weight pull, dragging some weight with your dog has plenty of mental enriching benefits as well as many physical benefits too!! These can include:

🐾Strengthening your bond and relationship with your dog
🐾Better conditioning - your dog's cardiovascular and strength will improve 💨
🐾Helping with obedience - reinforcing certain weight pull behaviours can translate to everyday life - here, turn, wait, let's go!
🐾Building confidence - most dogs like having a "job" - if we always pay well and party they will want to work hard! 💥

The first and most important piece of equipment you will need is a properly fitted freight harness. The fit is important for a number of reasons:

🐾 It will significantly reduce the risk for injury by distributing the weight evenly on the dog's body
🐾A neck that is too big can slide up and over the shoulder blades, pulling on your dog's neck which can affect their breathing
🐾A harness that is too big or too small can change the way the dog pulls and encourage bad habits

There are a number of different ways you can use dragging as a workout and a number of things you can drag!

🐾Long distance, light weight. This is basically adding some resistance to a walk. It adds a safe, fun, low impact exercise to an everyday activity. Remember to always keep a leash handy or attached to your dog's collar, in case they act up
🐾Short distance, heavy weight. This a great way to learn how to work with your dog as a team, how to read and trust each other and how to work through pressure. If you keep a "cheat" line (we recommend 8 to 10 ft.) attached to the weight, then your dog will never fail! You will build confidence in them by assisting when needed!
🐾Chains - great for long distance dragging OR balling up as weight on a drag sled ⛓️
🐾Window weights - can be attached to chain for long distance dragging or added as weight to a drag sled
🐾Drag sled - usually made of metal, with a flat bottom or skies, that helps it pull smooth over most flat surfaces. You can add weight plates or a variety of items used for weight 💪

2 more important things to consider when dragging are the surface you are working on and where you are attaching the majority of the weight on the harness. If we remember these handy tips we are helping to set our dog's up for success from the beginning!

🐾Drag work should be done on grass, dirt, or carpet. Gravel (even small pebbles) and concrete can be extremely bad for your dog's nails and pads.
🐾Try and keep a line from harness to weight. You can use any 4 to 6 ft line with a double snapping clip, a light chain or custom drag tether. This way the harness sits in a proper position and your dog is pulling the weight not toting it.

Dog in video, JD, 11 year old senior dog. He started getting muscle wasting on his rear around 9 years old and through consistent and fun drag work, he was built back up and was able to continue a bit of work he loved (spring pole/mill sprints) until he died at near 12 years old.
