🐾 One of the most common questions in veterinary medicine:
“How old is my pet in human years?”
It’s simple to ask—but the answer isn’t so simple.
The old “multiply by 7” rule? Not accurate. Pets age much faster in their early years and then the rate slows down. For example, a 1-year-old dog isn’t like a 7-year-old child—they’re more like a full-blown young adult.
Cats and dogs also age differently depending on size, breed, and overall health. Larger dog breeds tend to age faster than smaller ones, and lifestyle plays a huge role too.
💡 What actually matters more than the number:
Regular vet check-ups
Dental care
Nutrition
Exercise
Watching for subtle behavior changes
A “senior” pet can still be thriving, playful, and full of life with the right care.
So instead of focusing only on the number—focus on quality of life. That’s the real measure of age. ❤️
