Model Horses...
Decoding the mystery of how they multiply.
It's often suspected that the various types of collectible equines and other animals we cherish are capable of multiplying. We're fairly certain they are not doing this using biological means. I decided to see if doing an honest inventory of the horse, dog and other animal-shaped things that have arrived...and appear to be staying with me...since January could help shed some light on the issue.
From the new Breyer line for 2025 I have the Ideal buckskin and Cloud. They are staying. Surfer's Riptide jumped into my arms but he's still in his box, so, he could be sold down the road. (3 models).
Although I like to say I don't collect Stablemates, I do own the Brilliance set, which is bizarre and unexplainable because I don't do decorators, and the deluxe SM set. But the question remains...do they count? They are so small, maybe they shouldn't count. (12 models).
Still here after both our live show, MIM, and The Collective online show series, there are 14 dogs, cats and a fox. But. Those are technically show prizes, and, non-equids. Maybe they should not count. (14 non-equid models).
I'm in the Stablemates Club (twice) so I think I have 6 SM club models from this year. Even if it's four, it will be six soon. (6 models).
Julia went to the Stone Country Fair and I just happened to see her text about did anyone need bodies? She had to help me through thinking about what I might want. Bunny. Sara. To my intense delight I have 3 Stone bodies. But hey. If I customize them well and sell them, they could be a great investment. (3 models).
Premier Club Murgese. Kept one, sold one. (1 model).
Early CM by Clarissa Quinn. A trade. Not the trade I expected, but he fits in to the growing herd of wild horses. (1 model).
Breyerfest Croi pony în buckskin, collie dog and Shindig, BF Stablemate set (5), and Cash. Seven other models which are for sale. I don't usually count merchandise. So let's not count the seven. (9 models).
I was gifted about a dozen 1980s era Breyers. I'm keeping two foals and the Old Timer. The other nine will get cleaned up and sold so they don't count. Maybe none of them should count because they were gifts.(3 models).
About ten horses more or less on consignment. One of them I used for a photo shoot so I will probably keep her. The rest are for sale and so they don't count. (1 model).
Resins out in the ethers...complete mystery how this happened... - Fergie, Laredo, Sage X2 (4 models)
2 eBay semi-rearing mustangs, one white-grey PAM (a trade), and a moose with antlers that look like they are blowing in the wind...he's so lyrical, I might not customize him. (4 models)
Breyer resin mustang. I didn't know I needed one. The price was insane. And he's small so maybe we can skip over him. (1 model).
WIA mustangs. 3 pairs. Eventually I will sell or CM and sell a pair. (6 models).
That's 68 models, or 9.7 models per month, or roughly, a pony galloping in about every three or four days. Now, I've sold more than 68 models since January, so perhaps these 68 don't count. If we only count traditional models, there's a mere 23. If from that number we remove gifts and trades, it's just 18 horses. Or, 2.57 horses per month.
So the rate of attrition can be controlled by setting parameters. This will be a valuable tool to utilize if you come to such foolishness as trying to decipher where all the horses came from.
