Let’s clear up one of the biggest myths in the barrel pen: “Alfalfa makes horses hot.” It doesn’t.

Alfalfa is higher in calories and protein than grass hay, but that doesn’t mean it turns your horse into a fire-breathing dragon. If a horse gets antsy or wild after switching to alfalfa, odds are it’s because:
• They were underfed before and now feel good
• The workload doesn’t match the calories
• They’re not being exercised consistently

Protein doesn’t cause hyper behavior. It’s used for muscle repair and growth, not energy. And the extra calories? That’s only an issue if your horse is sitting around doing nothing all week and then suddenly getting legged up.

Horses need fuel to perform. Alfalfa is packed with digestible fiber, essential nutrients, and it’s gentle on ulcers, making it a great option for performance horses.

"The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but victory rests with the Lord.” Proverbs 21:31

Horses represent strength and readiness, but this verse reminds us that human effort alone is never enough. When we face life’s battles, we must trust that victory comes from the Lord. No matter how uncertain things may seem, we can have peace knowing that God is in control and that His plans will always prevail.

Hi everyone! I wanted to let you all know that I will be stepping back from teaching riding lessons until the spring. Now that I’ve hit my third trimester and with winter setting in, it feels like the right time to take a break and focus on this exciting new chapter.

Thank you all for your understanding and support! I can’t wait to be back in the saddle with you in the spring!

My Story

Here’s a little background info on how my love for horses began and where I am today.

Every chance I got growing up I wanted to be right beside my grandpa it didn’t matter what we were doing. If it was hauling hay for his cattle, mending fences or checking out the local auction for potential heifers there was always something fun and exciting to do. It was hard work but farming and the outdoors life was in my blood and rooted in my heart and soul. In the evening we always watched a good ole western, Roy Rodgers and Gene Autry was truly my favorites. The connection between the cowboys and their trusty horses was something my heart longed for. At age 7 I got to ride my first horse named Shorty who was owned and trained by the famous Bobby Atwood. So after that every Christmas and every birthday all I asked for was a “paint” horse.3 years later my parents surprised me with my first horse named Rocket who I still have. At age 17 I received a call from Mr. Bobby asking me to come by his barn, I did and I was overjoyed at the news he wanted me to come work at his barn. I don’t think there has ever been a happier teen when I left that barn heading to share the news with my family. Those long, hot and cold days cleaning the barn, loping horses and gathering cows will forever be some of my most cherished memories. I learned how to ride “the correct” way and use your body to move your horses body. That patience and consistency are key to reaching a goal with your horse. And if you are using your hands you should be using your legs and feet as well. But most defiantly more leg! I started giving riding lessons at around age 13 and riding horses for neighbors but my business started to get more clients after working for Mr. Bobby. I’ve been very blessed to have these opportunities, to work with the horses I have and still get to do what I love now.

Horses are my passion and always have been. I love seeing a horse learn to trust, start using the thinking side of his brain and achieve greatness. So here’s a bit about my method and belief’s on teaching horses. I do not break horses, I do not break my horses spirit. I am a firm believer in your horse learning to trust you on the ground before saddling or attempting to ride, for you and your horses safety. I believe like humans, every horse is different and should be allowed to learn at their own pace. Not all horses are NFR material but every horse can be improved with trust and patience. My job is to show him what to do in the way he thinks and make what I am asking the easiest option. If you are not getting the response you won’t from your horse you should try a new way of asking, but not force. I think we as humans can learn more from our horses than the horse ever learns from us if we let them. I am not the best or the most talented with horses, but I am kind, firm and am always trying to learn and improve knowledge so I can be even better for the horse. I am forever thankful for the people who have and are supporting and teaching me. I am thankful for my clients and amazing horse people I work with. But most importantly I am thankful to our good Lord and Savior who gave me this love for horses and paved a way for my dreams to come true.
