Yesterday morning, the VIPets Hardin Station team traded scrubs for life jackets and braved the storm to participate in the 9th Annual Beaver Creek Flotilla! While our CSR had to sit this one out, the rest of the team enjoyed a rainy adventure while supporting a wonderful community event. 💚

Know the warning signs:

⚠️ Weakness
⚠️ Vomiting
⚠️ Collapse

Quick action can save a life. If you think your pet may be overheating, contact a veterinarian immediately.

Holiday Hours Update 🐾

Our clinic will be closed Monday, May 25 for Memorial Day and will reopen with normal hours on Tuesday. Please make sure to refill medications and pick up any food or prescriptions before the holiday weekend!

Meet Genevieve! She the gorgeous teacup Persian cat who belongs to our wonderful practice manager, Ashley! Genevieve has the soul of a tiny human and the heart of a full-time princess. She believes you don’t need to know her age because age is just a number. 👑🐾 She absolutely loves music (especially Birds of a Feather). She will happily sit for hours making biscuits while listening to her favorite songs. When she’s not curled up on her beloved heating pad or stealing the warmest spot on a heated blanket, she can usually be found insisting on joining family dinner like she pays the bills around here. Genevieve, also known as Meow Meow, Pretty Girl, or “such a pretty girrrrrrl,” has perfected the art of emotional manipulation for treats and would almost certainly be guilty of tax fraud if she had opposable thumbs. One of her funniest habits is randomly staring at walls like she sees ghosts before sprinting away at full speed for absolutely no reason. Despite the accusations, her family insists she’s completely innocent of all wrongdoing. She is an absolute angel incapable of chaos. Her mom says the moment she was adopted became an instant favorite memory. And let’s be real, it’s easy to see why she’s so adored. 💕

Knoxville is helping lead the future of modern animal sheltering. 🐾

Over the past month, Young-Williams Animal Center CEO, Janet Testerman, was invited to speak at two of the nation’s largest animal welfare conferences - the Best Friends National Conference and Animal Care Expo hosted by the Humane World for Animals - sharing how our community is redefining what an animal shelter can and should be.

At both conferences, Janet highlighted Young-Williams’ transformation from being seen as a “default destination” for pet surrender to becoming a proactive community support hub focused on keeping pets and people together whenever possible.

Her presentations showcased how Knoxville is building innovative solutions that address the root causes of pet surrender before families reach a crisis point.

From launching an affordable access-to-care veterinary clinic to providing pet food support, medical grants, crisis boarding assistance, lost pet reunification and community outreach programs, Young-Williams is creating a stronger safety net for pets and the people who love them.

By changing our philosophy, intake practices and approach to community engagement, we are helping more pets stay home, healthy and loved, while also sharing Knoxville’s model and paying it forward to shelters nationwide.

We’re proud that innovation happening right here in East Tennessee is helping shape the national conversation around the future of animal welfare.
