I had plans today. Several projects I wanted to take on. Old pieces waiting to be brought back to life. Doing things like that is therapeutic for me. It’s a creative outlet that brings me joy and peace.

But when your loved ones ask to spend a little time with you, including the four-legged, floppy-eared kind, it’s important to pause. In the midst of all the darkness in the world, I’m learning to find balance. To slow down. To soak in the small moments that bring light, laughter, and calm to the chaos.

It’s not about going full blast. And it’s not about doing nothing either. It’s about finding that delicate middle space where peace and productivity coexist. Where your soul breathes a little easier.

Today I chose connection. Joy. The kind of laughter that tickles your funny bone and settles into your heart.

Our hearts are heavy today.

The tragic events that unfolded yesterday at Avalon Pier have shaken our community to its core. Our thoughts and deepest prayers are with the families of those involved, and with everyone in our tight-knit Outer Banks community who is feeling the weight of this heartbreaking loss.

This is not something any of us ever expect to see here—where we walk our dogs, greet our neighbors, and watch the sun rise over the water. But today, we stand together in grief, love, and support.
