New intake

Hedwin is an owner surrender out of Yakima County. We don't know much about her, just that she was in a tough situation and needed immediate help. We acted right away and drove down to get her tonight. Hedwin had been purchased from the Toppen*sh feedlot over 10 years ago and had never left the property. The owner fell on hard times and with the help of a Good Samaritan, made the right choice to turn her over to us.

This sweet little gal was scared but eventually allowed herself to be caught and loaded in the trailer. She's currently settling in at her new foster home. We can't wait to see the transformation on this one! Very sweet personality and with the help of some vet care and groceries, we have a feeling she's going to be the sweetest addition to someone's pasture. We will share more info once we learn more about her.

We would be grateful for donations in order to help pay for her upcoming vet and farrier visit. Thank you to our incredible community who allow us to continue to help equines in need.

We would love any name suggestions as well! Let us know your suggestions in the comments!

Mercy update:

The transformation of this beautiful lady is a testament to her resilience. Her initial wariness and apprehension have given way to a confident and assertive personality.

Mercy now greets visitors at the fence, demands attention, and clearly communicates her needs. Her baby has experienced rapid growth and appears to be thriving.

This week, Mercy is showing signs that she is preparing to give birth, and her physical changes indicate that the arrival of her baby could happen anytime. We can't wait to meet her baby and to share this joyous occasion with our supporters, whose donations have made Mercy's transformation possible.

Mercy truly embodies the spirit and mission of RCER. Stay tuned for baby news!

RCER at Rendezvous!

RCER supported the Back Country Horsemen of Washington at their prominent annual event, hosted in Ellensburg. Throughout the weekend, our volunteers engaged with fellow horse enthusiasts and shared our mission at RCER.

The Back Country Horsemen generously donated a substantial amount of tack from their sale to support our upcoming A Legacy of Hope: 20 year celebration and tack sale in July.

We are deeply grateful for their ongoing support, which will enable RCER to continue rescuing and rehabilitating equines in Kittitas County.

Emergency Intake: Mercy

Last week, we received an emergency call from the Yakima Sheriff's Office regarding a critical situation. Our volunteers promptly responded, rescuing a 15 year old Andalusian mare from a deplorable living environment, who we've named Mercy.

A prior equine seizure had occurred on the property the week before, but Mercy remained hidden due to the excessive debris and garbage. Regrettably, she had no access to food or water and is approximately eight months pregnant.

Mercy was evaluated by Central Washington Equine Hospital. Dr. Lopez confirmed the foal is healthy, and Mercy is expected to foal within two months. She has since undergone necessary medical care, including dental floating and hoof trimming, and is now receiving proper nutrition for her pregnancy.

These two pictures are taken approximately 1 week apart, you can see she's already looking and feeling much better at her foster home. We can't wait to get Mercy healthy again and could not do this without your support.

We are in need of donations for Mercy as she and her baby receive the medical care and nutrition they need. Donations can be made through our website, or via the donation option on this post. Every penny we receive goes directly to the cost of medical and food expenses.

Ernie is still looking for his forever home. He is a ~9yr old grade QH gelding that needs a job. Are you his next person?

Here is the info we know.
History - We were told he has spent time working in a feedlot and used to be a trail horse. His brand shows he came from a cattle ranch in Montana, was sold at auction last year, then surrendered to RCER just a couple months later (July '25) due to family health issues and needing to downsize their herd.
Physical - has previous injury (healed) to right hock. Based on x-ray, the lower portion of that joint is almost completely fused but the upper articulating portion looks pretty good but there is mild arthritis. Will need maintenance at some point. Due to this injury, he would be best suited for light to moderate work.
Ernie is currently being treated for ulcers and is about 1/2 way through his treatment.
Able to pick up all 4 feet, but patience is needed with right rear leg due to the old injury.
Temperament - He is a sweet boy but will test you. He thinks he's the boss so will need consistency in his next home. He's very smart and silly and gets bored easy (he's got a double whorl on his forehead!). He is an emotional and sensitive boy; after losing his foster brother to illness (he was very attached) he became very depressed for a couple of weeks. He really would like a new best friend. He will try to be dominant in a herd but he really is more of a middle man.
Ernie can be nippy, but we are betting that will get better once his ulcer treatment is complete. This behavior is better with consistent handling and groundwork.
Riding - he is not a beginner horse. He can be ridden but should be considered green and will need a training refresher. His riding assessment showed he is better with neck reining than direct contact with the bit, but appears unfamiliar with leg cues.

Message us to make an appt to meet this handsome boy. We can provide video of him running around in the pasture and of the riding assessment. Adoption application can be found on our website as well as his adoption fee.
