Genetic Testing…. Let’s cover it really quick, in brief!

Heelers are prone to serious inherited eye issues like
• PRA (Progressive Retinal Atrophy): slow, irreversible blindness
• PLL (Primary Lens Luxation) : painful, can lead to eye removal and is VERY early onset
• Other retinal defects that can quietly rob vision over time

Here’s the kicker:
A puppy can look perfectly healthy and still be carrying genes that flip the lights off later. Two healthy non symptomatic parents can be carriers and the breeder who isn’t testing, doesn’t know. Then they produce puppies who carry the gene twice, which makes the puppy symptomatic down the road.

Genetic testing isn’t about making “show dogs.”
It’s about not setting your “just a family pet” up for pain, surgeries, or blindness down the road.

A responsible breeder isn’t guessing.
