So many things that led this to be a very special hunt. Details to the week prior that kept me out of the woods since Thanksgiving, food poisoning, stitches in my left hand, deciding on setting up a new location, and without my compound as I was nursing a injury I took a friends cross bow.. not for the lack of trying it had been10 yrs since my last buck and I was not going to take anything lightly. I had scoped a nice boy few weeks back, but nothing since. Just as I'm about to get down, one last scan and I see bone thru my hemlock tree, worried he'd not come about in time before it was too dark, but he did, perfectly broadside only 20 yrds. I watched him kick out 20 more yrds, and a sight I'd not had the opportunity to see myself first hand with my deer staying in sight. Having that reassurance I sat back and took the largest relief sigh. Took my time getting to him, with lots of emotions come forth for a few mins I sat there. Took another breath and was ever thankful for such a animal on my birthday. Never expected it and even thought, I'm never this lucky, well persistence gets the break.
