Normally I wait until after the tag is off to announce the name, however since this mare already has a name from her time on the range it seems fitting to announce it now. Meet Pebbles! When I was choosing which horse I wanted for Teens and Oregon Mustangs from the list of horses this mare stood out to me and I was so sure that she was the one I wanted. So I was so thrilled to find out today that my 1st pick was coming home with me. It was an exciting surprise to find that she had been pretty well documented over the years. I have so much reverence for a mare who has spent the first 10 years of her life living in the wild with a herd and raising multiple foals.

Home of the South Steens mustangs!

Home to South Steens mustangs — the Steens Mountain stretches 50 miles long and 9,738 feet high. The mustangs live at an elevation from 5,000 to over 7,500 feet. These BLM mustangs are hardy horses. The South Steens Mountain is a forbidding home with its harsh climate — temperatures reaching below zero in the winter and near 100 degrees in the dry summer.

I’m enjoying all the memories of this guy 2 years ago! Ajax was my 1st mustang, he was such a cool guy. He taught me SO much about training 🩵Ajax, now Jax went to the best home with Heilman Horses in Oregon.
