Behavior Detective Question: What is your dog's FAVORITE part of a summer adventure? 🐾

Is it…
👃 The smells
🌊 The water
🌲 Exploring
🐕 Meeting friends
🍖 The snacks

😴 The nap afterward

What clue tells you they're having a good time? 👀

Fall Walks Are Full of Clues 🍂🐾

I see you looking at those fall walks a little differently…

The cooler temperatures, changing smells, crunchy leaves, busy trails, new routines, and all the sights and sounds that come with the season can create a LOT of information for our dogs to process.

And sometimes, a walk that felt easy a few weeks ago suddenly feels… different.

Maybe your young dog is discovering new environments for the first time.

Maybe your older dog is showing you they need a little more space, time, or support than they used to.

Or maybe you’ve been working on your training and wondering how to help those skills translate into the real world.

Here’s the thing I want you to know: **Your dog is already giving you clues.** 🔎

Their body language.
Their movement.
Where they look.
What they notice.
What they choose.
What changes when the environment changes.

These moments aren’t failures to fix, they’re information we can learn to understand. And when you have the right lens, those “What do I do?” moments can become **“Ahhh… I see what my dog is telling me.”**

That’s the heart of **A SAFE Dog Experience.**

A guided experience designed to help you become a better observer, understand the bigger picture behind behavior, and discover practical ways to support your dog through real-life challenges.

🍂 **Fall walks are coming. Let’s learn to read the clues.**

Heelzone Games Part 3
Transitions from "heel" to "front" to "heel."

These games mix foot work & hand targets to cue behavior. I typically do not add a verbal cue until these behaviors are super easy to achieve.

Reinforce for a sit in each position.

Practice from both sides; heel left & heel right.

🔎 Case File #6 - The Tiny Adventure
What's one tiny summer adventure that made your day better? ☀️

It doesn't have to be a big trip.

Maybe it was:
☕ Coffee on the porch
🐾 A sniffy walk
🌅 Watching the sunset
🌊 Sitting by the water
🌲 Exploring somewhere new
🐶 A goofy moment with your dog

Sometimes the smallest adventures make the best memories. What's yours?

SAFE connection: Security includes enjoying experiences that feel good and comfortable.

Heelzone Games Part 2
Moving from "heel" to "front" positions.

I start by using a step target to give my puppy a place to stop. All reinforcement happens on the target in the 2 positions I'm building up. (Heel & Front)

Part 1 taught finding "heel" so that is our starting place; find heel with paws up on the step.

Part 2 involves moving over the step, spinning around and stepping back up on the target step.
