Does your dog love to steal things and run away with them? 🐕💨

Right now I have a beagle client that is one of the worst thieves I've ever seen. He is determined to grab anything humans may want and run. Chase me is his all time favorite game. And with lots of reinforcement in the form of being chased, his owners now have to spend even more time adjusting the ABC's to solve this challenging behavior.

That’s the ABC’s of Dog Training in action:
👉 Antecedent – The tempting sock on the floor
👉 Behavior – Dog grabs it and runs
👉 Consequence – You chase, turning it into a fun game!

By changing the antecedent (keeping temptations out of reach) and the consequence (rewarding calm trading instead of chasing), you can rewrite the story for success. 🙌 Once the dog learns the value of trade, he will stop running away things.

Sometimes the smallest changes make the biggest difference in our dog’s behavior. 🐾

When we re-write the ABC’s of Dog Training (Antecedent → Behavior → Consequence), we set our dogs up for success before the struggle even happens.

✨ A calmer walk.
✨ Fewer outbursts.
✨ More teamwork.

It all starts with understanding the “why” behind the behavior.

🎥 The full ABC’s of Dog Training Webinar is now available in our Turning Struggles Into Strengths Membership. Registration closes on August 30th!

🏕️ Planning a camping trip with your dog?

Here are 5 quick tips for a safe + happy adventure:

1️⃣ Practice camping at home first (backyard tents count!)
2️⃣ Pack familiar comforts + the essentials (long line, shade, water bowls).
3️⃣ Take introductions slow! Your dog doesn’t have to meet everyone.
4️⃣ Balance fun hikes with quiet downtime.
5️⃣ Always have a safety plan (for storms, fireworks, or first aid).

✨ Want a step-by-step guide that makes camping with your dog easy?

Great news! 🎉 The Turning Struggles Into Strengths Webinar – The ABC’s of Dog Training is now available for you to watch on Patreon.

This 60-minute workshop dives into the ABC Model of Dog Training—Antecedent, Behavior, and Consequence—a simple yet powerful framework to help you understand why your dog does what they do and how you can guide them toward better choices.

Here’s what you’ll learn inside this recording:
🐾 How the environment (Antecedent) impacts your dog’s behavior
🐾 Why your dog chooses certain actions (Behavior)
🐾 How to adjust your responses (Consequence) to encourage success
🐾 Real-life examples for tackling leash pulling, barking, overexcitement, and more

This webinar gives you the tools to replace daily struggles with confidence, clarity, and calm.

Comment below the biggest struggle you are having with your dog for an example of how that struggle fits into the ABC's of Dog Training.

Our Service Dog Group had a great outing today!

I want to thank Ride North and Burger King for graciously letting us practice!

The dogs are all working on ignoring distractions and keeping focus on their human. Team Bluey is training the "middle" safety position (standing between handlers legs), Team Badger is learning to switch sides & Team Barky Belle is re-learning not to bark at kids.

This was our first restaurant trip with all 3 dogs together and they did so well settling under the table.

We have big plans for next week's outing!

The Story of Adora Belle Chaos

I saw a picture of her when she was only one week old.
A tiny pup with a scarlet collar.
And I knew she was mine.
She even shared a birthday with my mom.
It felt like fate.

Every week, I watched her grow.
Little updates, little photos.
At four weeks old, she had a name, Belle,
And she already knew it!

She was the pup who barked at every person who walked in.
“Don’t worry, Belle,” her breeder would say.
“We’ll be there in a minute.”
And she would stop, sit,
Waiting for the snuggles she loved so much.

At eight weeks, Belle came home.
She rode in a crate on the front seat,
quiet for the four-hour drive.
But when we stopped for potty breaks,
the cold snow scared her tiny feet.
So I tucked her into my coat.
Safe.
Warm.
Loved.

She learned quickly;
p*e pads first,
then an indoor potty station,
then braving the snow.
Clever girl.

Belle grew bold, busy, and bright.
She loved teamwork;
retrieving, learning, chasing balls,
always with joy in her step.
Always with me in her heart.

No matter where we go,
she keeps her eyes on me.
Forest trails.
Busy streets.
Bike rides.
Training sessions.
Belle always knows where I am.
She is my shadow,
my partner,
my teammate.

And she has a voice.
Oh, does she have a voice.
Belle barks when we park.
Barks when I leave.
Barks when I come home.
Each bark is different,
each bark a message:
“I’m here, Mom. Don’t forget me.”

She is chaos.
She is joy.
She is mine.
From the very first photo
to every day we share now,
Belle has lived up to her name—
Adora Belle Chaos.

Providing positive training for your 4 legged friends!

I would like to introduce myself to the communities of Vulcan, Norway, and Iron Mountain. My family recently relocated to the area a little over a year ago and I am currently training a puppy to be my Service Dog. I’m always looking for businesses, groups, and organizations that are willing to help me with public access training and in return I can offer training to your staff or group about working animals including service dogs, therapy dogs and ESA’s.

Meet Azul

The current puppy that I am training to be a Service Dog is Azul, a Husky/German Shepherd puppy. I’ve been working with him since he was 6 weeks old. The first few weeks were all about developing a bond with each other and learning how to read each other. Then we spent a whole ton of time working on creating great experiences for Azul during his critical socialization period. And we are just starting our formal training that will lead to becoming a Service Dog to provide medical alert & response.
