Because it’s been brought to my attention so many times over the last few days, I feel like I need to formally acknowledge something I had briefly touched on in a previous post.
I am aware of the new cleaning and odd-job business called Hometown Honey-Dos. We are not, nor have we ever been, affiliated with them.
I want to be clear that technically, there is nothing illegal or inherently wrong happening. Their name is different, kinda. Their logo is different, ish. And while there are obvious similarities, I never imagined I would be in a position where trademarking slogans, phrases, or branding would even be something I needed to consider.
What makes this situation frustrating is that anyone who has been around since day one knows this is exactly how Honey Dos started. We did everything—cleaning, organizing, yard work, repairs, renovations, pet care, childcare—you name it. As our business grew, we narrowed our focus to cleaning so we could remain properly insured, compliant, and continue growing responsibly. We never stopped helping where we could; we simply stopped advertising many of those services.
Shay and I have poured years of blood, sweat, tears, late nights, financial risks, and personal sacrifices into building Honey Dos into a trusted name in our community. Because of the similarities, there is now understandable confusion about who is who. Referrals that were meant for us can easily end up elsewhere, and the reputation we’ve spent years building can unintentionally become attached to another business.
I also want to make it clear that this is not about competition. There is plenty of work for all of us. I regularly refer potential clients to other cleaning companies, and I genuinely believe there is room for everyone to succeed. We have a team of four, stay booked weeks in advance, and are incredibly grateful for the support our community continues to show us.
At the end of the day, there isn’t much I can do about the situation. What I can do is continue building the business we’ve worked so hard to create, continue serving our clients, and continue showing up for our community.
To everyone who has supported us over the years: thank you. Every booking, recommendation, review, share, and word-of-mouth referral has helped make Honey Dos what it is today.
We’re going to keep checking things off your honey-do list.
And we’re going to keep doing a damn good job of it.
