I don't post about every injured critter that we take in - but this one needs to be talked about because I am fuming!
This innocent baby opossum was found with her front leg stuck in a rat snap trap. Her circulation was cut off to the point that her leg appeared broken. Her soft hand and tiny fingers were swollen like balloons ready to pop. She was severely dehydrated - meaning this little baby had been trapped like that for hours, possibly DAYS. Her ear was also torn, most likely in her struggle to free herself.
Can you imagine the pain she endured? The fear? The thirst? If the thought of that does not break your heart, then go ahead and unfollow us now. Because it has me feeling SICK. I am disgusted that people use these barbaric traps. How absolutely heartless can you be?!
"I didn't mean to hurt an opossum, I use the trap to kill pests like rats". Well that's horrible, too! While many people believe these traps provide a quick and painless death to unwelcomed rodents - that is often not the case. These traps can fail, leaving the rodent injured, trapped and left to die a slow and painful death. How is that humane? It's not.
We should be striving for more compassionate ways to coexist with wildlife - focusing on prevention and humane solutions rather than inflicting unnecessary pain and suffering.
So for this precious little girl, we will do our best to heal what another human has broken. We named her Oriana, which means "dawn". We hope that a new beginning and brighter days are ahead for her.
Thank you to the wonderful finder who cared enough to free her and seek help. We need more people like you. You saved her life. ❤️🩹
