🇮🇳 80 years of independence. 80 years of freedom, rights, and dignity for us.
But today, as we wave our flags and celebrate, I can't stop thinking about the ones who never got a say in any of it. The strays who flinch when a hand comes near, not knowing if it's kindness or a stone. The ones chased off the only patch of land they ever knew because we decided we needed it more. The ones who live every single day in fear not of enemies, not of invaders, but of us.
We built monuments to freedom and forgot that freedom was never meant to be a one-species club. We talk about coexistence like it's a favor we're doing them, when really, it's the bare minimum we owe them.
An animal's right to live shouldn't depend on how useful, cute, or convenient they are to us. Their right to safety shouldn't end where our comfort begins. Their right to a home shouldn't be erased every time we want to build one more building.
So today, while we celebrate 80 years of independence, let's also ask ourselves when do we start giving freedom to those who never asked us for anything except to be left alone, fed, and safe?
Real independence isn't complete until every living being gets to feel it. 🐾
