🚨 New World Screwworm Important Information 🚨

New World Screwworm is a serious parasite whose larvae feed on living tissue, affecting livestock, pets, wildlife, and, in rare cases, people.

Pet owners should be especially vigilant. If you notice a suspicious wound. Early detection and treatment are critical.

For dogs and cats, there is some good news: products such as Bravecto or Credelio may help protect against New World Screwworm infestations. Pet owners should continue to monitor for wounds and seek veterinary care if concerns arise.

While we currently carry one of the recommended products to treat NWS, (Credilio) we are in the process of switching over our combo(heartworm & flea) product to Credilio Quattro from Trifexis in order to protect our patients.

We have been absolutely swamped this week with community assistance requests and animals in need.

One case in point is Intake #428.26. To us, this sweet boy is much more than a number, and the caring folks at Kerr County Animal Control feel the same way. ❤️

Last weekend, while volunteers Shelly Sandy and Melissa Downs were working with the cats, they noticed he wasn’t acting like himself. He appeared lethargic, uncomfortable, and in pain. Upon examination, he was found to have cuts and scratches along his sides from what appeared to be some type of attack. The wounds seemed to be healing, so he was treated and returned to his kennel.

A short time later, however, a significant swelling developed on his side. We asked to have him brought in for further evaluation.

What we discovered was heartbreaking.

This sweet guy had a very large hernia and the swelling was actually his intestines that had come thru the hole and were protruding under his skin🥺. Defects like that pose a serious risk due to the potential for strangulation of the intestines resulting in catastrophic intestinal die off.

Surgery was needed—and we said yes.

Cases like this remind us why we are here. We are here to do everything we can for animals who cannot help themselves.

This deserving gentleman is now recovering in our care, but what he really needs is a name and a loving home. If you are looking to add a wonderful feline companion to your family, please reach out to us or Kerr County Animal Control and reference Impound #428.26.

Every animal deserves a second chance, and we’re honored to help make that possible.

🐾 Meet Mario! 🐾

Quite possibly the coolest Siamese boy on planet Earth. 😆

Born in March 2025, Mario was adopted as a kitten but recently found himself back with us through no fault of his own. But, Mario hasn’t let it affect his fabulous outlook on life one bit!

This handsome Seal Point is equal parts charm, personality, and good looks.

Now Mario is looking for a fresh start—one that ends with a forever family committed to loving him for the rest of his life.

If you’re searching for a cat with style, and a whole lot of love to give, Mario might just be your perfect match.

One of our favorite things is nurturing the next generation of animal advocates. 🐾

We’ve had the tremendous pleasure of watching young people get involved in animal welfare and grow into some of the most caring, compassionate, and passionate advocates for animals.

Well… we have a junior wildlife transporter in our midst! 🦌🦉

We have a feeling we’ll be seeing a lot more of Hadley around here! ❤️

Way to go, Hadley! 👏🐾

Chester was found in the middle of the street, tiny and vulnerable.

We were able to provide the supplies needed to help his finder care for this little guy and give him the best possible start.
