Does your dog struggle with allergies?
Itchy? Stained paws and mouth? Hotspots and sores?
I want to share something I personally struggle with, with two of my own dogs. Allergies are a BEAST. Yall know Labs are my breed of choice, and allergies are painfully common in this breed.
Gracie is my six year old yellow Lab girl. We lovingly refer to her as Big Mama, because she’s huge and about the kindest dog you’ll ever meet.
When I bought her, she was a mess. Her breeder had been trying unsuccessfully to get her pregnant, and she wouldn’t take. They even did AI to try for pups, then finally gave up and stuck her out in a kennel run and put her for sale as a pet. Because Apoquel and similar anti itching meds aren’t safe for pregnant mamas, Gracie hadn’t had any relief for her severe allergies. She had chewed an enormous bloody sore into one leg, and had oozing sores all over her. She was heartworm positive, and deaf as a result of too many untreated (or insufficient, who knows) ear infections. Me, being a sucker, bought her on the spot. She has since become known as the Million Dollar Dog because of the amount of cash I’ve sunk into getting her healthy, and maintaining her comfort. She had obstruction surgery a couple years ago after ingesting four pairs of socks, turns out she loves to eat inedible stuff. She had the treatment for her heartworm, which lasted for months. And of course, the dreaded allergies.
Gracie is struggling right now with this. We went to the vet yesterday, and they did a skin cytology. The vet came back in, muttering “yeast, so much yeast”. 😆 😭
$500 and an oral anti fungal, topical anti fungal, steroids, Apoquel, and a medicated shampoo later, we walked out with instructions to bathe her three times a week in her special shampoo, let it sit on her skin for at least 25 minutes, and thoroughly rinse and dry her before applying the topical cream.
Allergies are expensive. Diagnosing them is so important though. If your dog resembles the photos in this post, is itchy all the time, licks his paws constantly… we can help.
Go see your vet. Get the medicated shampoo. Bring your pup to us, for our allergy protocol, developed over years of working with allergy dogs and talking to many vets and even a veterinary dermatology specialist. Most people don’t follow through with the prescribed bathing protocols, because honestly, it’s hard work and who has time?!

For $50, your pup can come in, have a medicated bath with your prescribed shampoo and it will sit the required amount of time, it will get into every little fold and crevice, and it will be thorough. A gentle lukewarm rinse is best for allergy dog skin, and your pup will then be finished in an over the counter medicated shampoo called Soothe, which cleans the coat beautifully and has an incredible green tea scent you’ll love. Then we’ll thoroughly dry the entire body to prevent yeast issues due to moisture. We’ll do ears and nails, too. You can bring your pup in as often as needed, at this discounted price. Pricing may be lower for toy breeds, and a bit higher for giant breeds. Dogs may not have fleas, or severe open wounds. Must provide your own vet prescribed shampoo, we do not supply anything that is prescription only!
