A BIG thank-you to Ron & Sheri Foglio for donating these pallets to Young Paws Cat Rescue & Sanctuary! ❤️

These are going to become the foundation for some of the outdoor shelters we're building for community cats and kittens — part of our effort to create safe, dry, insulated spaces for them when the weather turns.

And this is where we love community involvement. If you’d like to help, we still need:

Straw — a bale or two should do it

30-gallon plastic storage bins (the more the merrier)

18-gallon plastic storage bins (the 18s will be fitted into the 30s for better insulation)

Styrofoam sheets for insulation between the bins

4 sheets of plywood, approximately 5' × 3' or close to that

4 milk crates

If you have any of these items in your garage, backyard, storage shed, or that mysterious corner where you've been putting things “just in case,” and you don’t need or use them, we can use them!

Hello, everyone!

We are preparing for what could be a very strong El Niño season this fall and winter and getting ready to build DIY weather-resistant shelters for outdoor community cats, giving them warm, dry places to escape the rain, wind, and cold.

Before we start buying supplies, we're hoping some of you may have exactly what we need sitting unused in your garages, sheds, or backyards.

Here's what we're looking for:

• Wood pallets
• Approximately 25 regular-size heavy bricks
• Straw — NOT hay, please
• 8 30-gallon plastic storage bins with lids
• 8 18-gallon plastic storage bins with lids
• Styrofoam sheets or pieces for insulation between the bins (we'll put the 18-gallon bins inside the 30-gallon bins)
• 4 sheets of plywood, approximately 5' × 3' or a little larger
• 6 milk crates to support a plywood shelf over the single-layer shelters

Nothing needs to be new. If you've got an old storage bin in the garage, leftover plywood from a project, spare bricks sitting in the yard, an unused pallet, a milk crate, or other materials on this list that are still relatively clean, sturdy, and usable, we can put them to work. They just need to be clean enough to work with—I can clean them up if needed.

The shelters will be made using nested storage bins for additional insulation and protection from the weather, with Styrofoam between the bins and straw inside rather than hay, since straw is better suited for outdoor shelters where moisture is a concern.

Chow time! 🐱 15 cans wet food, 2 big tbsp. pumpkin, about 1/4 c. chicken bone broth for cats, 3-4 scoops Wellness Blend. I do this every single morning — and have for the past 4 years. They insist! 😂😜

Great news! Edie… who will now be named Mia… has been adopted by her finder and will soon be going to her forever home! 🏡

Some may recall, she was found outside of Me & Ed’s a few weeks back. Her finder and KAS searched for her family, in case she was lost, but no one came forward. She was then transferred to us.

We’re getting her spayed and vaccinated end of month and then she will be on her way to live her best life with her new family!

Another happy ending and new beginning. ❤️🐾 This is our WHY. 🥰 We want this outcome for all of our rescues. 🙏
