A very common theme we work on in classes, but especially in the last few weeks, is.. DOGS HAVING BOUNDARIES!!!
Do you have personal space boundaries with your dog? Are they always following, constantly underfoot? (Every day is a dance in which you're trying not to hurt them while they maintain no personal-space boundaries ?) Does your dog know how to behave independently when you aren't around? Does your dog think that everything you do, also involves them? Do they think everything you do needs to go through their own approval process first?
I have really good news for you. All of these problems are simple to solve! We're solving them all of the time at Emily's Dog Daze as a team of loving dog parents, their very clever dogs, and also I show up, too! ๐๐ซก. With consistency and learning better practices, we are overcoming life-long behavior problems that dog parents didn't think could ever be solved.
I do mean to pop in regularly, and ask what kind of issues you're working on, or struggling with, with your dogs.
But I also like to highlight a lot of very common issues, and share a lot of reoccurring themes from my classes, in hopes to help others who are on their happy dog family journeys.
This week we'll be teaching a lot of doggie meditation, confidence and impulse control.
Most of us struggle to sit alone with our thoughts and no stimulus for even under 30 seconds. Then we ask our dogs to be fine when we crate them for hours in a similar situation, without having taught them how to CHILL and be at peace with or without us, first.
No judgements here, it's hard to be a dog parents. And to be sure, there isn't just one right way to do it. Each dog and their family make for a different training adventure. Most clients are also trying to raise up human puppies properly when they ask for my help with the canine kids, and that can be an incredibly tall order. That I'm happy to help with.
So anyways, here's a regular post in which I welcome any comments or questions. And as always I'd like to remind anyone I teach, that all of these dog psychology tricks also work on human children.
