Night of 3/14 sleeping after a long day being in the car. I met a bunch of other dogs today! I also have hit a turning point regarding the car. I fought getting in the car when we left home (as is my norm).
First, when the humans went to charge the car, we discovered a hidden dog park at the charger! At first, I was afraid to even say hi to the other dogs through the fence, but still really wanted to try to make friends. For a while, I sat next to the fence with my tail tucked, sniffing at the other dogs. Then, I led my momma into the dog park air lock thing. They brought me into the small/shy dog area so we could take it slow. I was pretty cautious, but I kept saying hi (with my tail tucked) to the big dogs through the fence. But then, I met a new friend! Her name is Daisy, and she is a 3 month husky/Shepard mix. We had lots of fun running around and playing. We got to say hi to a few other smaller dogs and played with them too, but I think Daisy is my favourite. I still fought getting in the car.
When we got out at the next charger, I took 45 mins to find a place I was ok with p*eing and tired out momma. Then, I was hesitant to get in the car, but at least I willingly put my paws on the door frame. I wasn't sure how to get the rest of the way up, so momma helped me.
Then, we took the human kid to Grandma's house. I met Sugar (link to her page in comments because it won't let me tag here), who is grandma's fat pitty rescue. She was really overwhelming with her interest in playing with me... She definitely doesn't realize how big she is, and is SUPER hyper. I asked momma to pick me up to save me from Sugar stepping on me, and they did. When it was time to leave, I tried to jump in the car, failed, and got some help.
After that, we went to see a friend of momma's, where I got out after whining like I needed to p*e. I spent another 45 mins dragging them all over the place, then tracked my way back to the parking spot that Daddy was in when we left, but he wasn't there! He was moving the car to follow us so that he could make sure we were safe. He parked by us and called my name. I got so happy! I even sat and asked momma to let me in the car. I still needed help climbing in, but I got a little bit better this time at doing it on my own.
At the last charger before home, I yet again dragged momma around for 45 mins acting like I needed to potty. When Daddy came to tell us the car was done charging, I happily followed him back to the car. When the door opened, I immediately clambered my way into the car and prepared to get my seatbelt on!
I was really happy when we got home. I really missed Grumbles throughout my day.
My humans think I'm starting to understand that my Ohana is never going to leave me behind or forget me, and that seemed to be a lot of my hesitation around car rides.
