So I have been asked for help. A friend has a sheltie girl with elbow dysplasia. Recently, she started licking the paw on the dysplasia side that was most uncomfortable. The original vet basically wrapped it and gave her some antibiotics then they had her for half a day to try and see if they could lance that area, but there really wasn’t a big sore on it. She had no answer except for maybe she had something that was stuck in her paw that then worked its way out. So she came home with a bandage, the cone of shame and a RX. So her we are months later and the same thing is happening. 9she starts licking as soon as the cone comes off and the bandage is removed). She went back to a vet this morning...."she went to the vet early this morning and they are not quite sure why she’s making that sore. First line of treatment here is some antibiotic and prednisone and she has to wear the cone for five days. We just hope that when we take the cone off, she won’t want to lick the heck out of that paw all the time. " She only licks one paw.
Does anyone have any ideas about what may be going on?
