The purpose of "Keep the Pooches on Gooch's" is to prevent the proposed dog ban on the beaches and keep Kennebunk dog-friendly. GROUP PURPOSE:
• Prevent the proposed dog ban on the Kennebunk beaches.
• Keep dogs on the beaches under the current ordinances and maintain responsibility.
• Promote how the allowance of dogs on the beaches enhances our community, tourism, and overall town economy.
• Com

municate facts, not opinions, about dogs on the beaches to residents and tourists.
• Reassure locals that allowing dogs on the beach can be safe and clean as long as we maintain our responsibility in following the current ordinances. GROUP STANDARDS:
• Be constructive and stay on task.
• Respect other people's ideas and opinions.
• No negativity. Members who do not follow these standards will be warned and / or removed the group.

Hello everyone! This is a copy of the Brochure (flyer) that the Dog Advisory Committee distributes to Hotels, Inns, Campgrounds and businesses about the expectations of dogs and owners when on the Kennebunk Beaches. Please read and share. Thank you.

The wide, sandy beaches in Kennebunk have always been favorite spots for dogs and their owners – wonderful places for dogs to romp, play and swim.
Please share our appreciation of these beautiful natural resources by being responsible dog owners.

To keep the Kennebunk beaches safe and welcoming to all, we call your attention to the following Beach Ordinances:
• Dogs are allowed on beaches:
o June 15 to the day after Labor Day – before 9 AM and after 5PM
o The day after Labor Day to June 15 – all day
• Dogs must be under voice control or owners must have them on leashes
• Owners must pick up after dogs
• Fines…up to $250
Bag dispensers and trash containers are located at each beach entrance.
Please…
• Have a leash at hand at all times.
• Be sensitive to early morning noise (barking dogs, car doors slamming, load conversation) and considerate of nearby residents
Have your leash ready to control your dog and be especially watchful when:
• it’s high tide
• the beach is crowded
• little children are playing
• another dog is walked on leash
• sleeping sunbathers are nearby
• families are picnicking
• there are unsteady beach walkers

UPDATE: The Selectmen met last night and the Dog Advisory Group as well as the Ordinance sub-Committee presented their recommendations: no changes to the Dog Ordinance this year! (See attached from me a few days ago!) The Selectmen unanimously accepted their recommendations and asked the Town Manager to be sure sure that the "enforcement" ideas be done asap. The DAC will finish revising the Brochures that everyone including Beach Monitors and volunteers from this group will distribute everywhere asap. The new signage is up and the Beach Monitors are being trained beginning tomorrow through June 14th. VOICE CONTROL is the biggest issue!!! You need to be able to call your dog to COME and he/she responds quickly/immediately. He/she should not be too far away from you and you know where he/she is every minute. If not, you need to have him/her on a leash. This is our biggest challenge and complaint. Please do not let your dog go up to people, dogs on leashes or other dogs unless you have checked with them or can use VOICE CONTROL effectively. There is a $250 fine for non-compliance and there are a lot of people/officers/ Beach Monitors watching. Finally, there is still a strong possibility that Gary Fumicello will get his 426 signatures to Ban Dogs from the Beaches for the November Ballot. We should know this at the June 13th Selectmen Meeting. This summer/year is a trial period for us. Let's help one another by educating and coaching with respect. Thanks for everyone's cooperation.
