**IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER** No rocks or gravel ever. They will eat it and become impacted. They can have very fine sand once they reach 6 inches.

**Frequently asked question**- "Are they hard to keep?" Some people do consider them "hard" They are a high maintenance pet that requires daily attention. They do not thrive off of neglect like a cat. I personally do not find them difficult. Time consuming but not difficult. I do have multiple though. I imagine one would be much easier to maintain. You really just need to keep them cool, clean, and feed them live worms. They have a high waste load so the water maintenance is what people find most difficult I believe. They also have poor eyesight. Sometimes you can drop their food in and they will get it themselves and other times they need a little help by waving it in front of their face. Any pet you get requires attention and care. This one is daily. I cannot answer if you will consider them difficult or not. I can only tell you if I personally consider them difficult and the answer is no. I will say that they can be highly stressful at first. That's because of everything that you read and hear about them being difficult. It tends to put a stress and panic into you. You become nervous that you will do something wrong and kill them. Just keep them cool, clean and fed and you both will do great. Please comment below if you have found them to be difficult or not. What is difficult if so?

I can not tell you when your tank is safe. There are so many factors that go into it. I do highly recommend one of these...

THINGS YOU NEED TO GET STARTED: 20 gallon aquarium minimum for one Axolotl.10 additional gallons for each additional Axolotl.Filter rated for double the size of your aquarium.Rosie red minnows. Bare bottom. No rocks or gravel ever. You can have very fine sand once the Axolotl reaches 6 inches. Something for Axolotl to hide in. Plants if you choose. Seachem prime water conditioner. Please remember that your Axolotl needs to be tubbed while you get a tank cycled. There is no time limit to how long they can live in the tub. They do very well being tubbed with daily water changes. These are things you need to get your tank started and cycling. However, you have time. You do not need these things to first bring one home. Your Axolotl will come with its tub to live in while you get things together. To first bring one home you will only need seachem prime water conditioner and live red worms.
