You might be wondering, “What is Nine Lives?”
We’re two girls starting with a humble coffee cart and dreaming of growing into a warm, welcoming full-time coffee shop. ☕️💫

Nine Lives Café began with one simple belief:
coffee can make the world kinder. 💗

Our mission is to create a cozy community space here in Kearney, Nebraska—one that gives back to animals in need. We’re not partnered with a rescue or shelter just yet, but our goal is to support local shelters, host donation nights, feature adoptable animals, and use our platform to help the animals
who need a little extra love. 🐾✨

We’re starting small with a cart and dreaming big for a café, pouring our whole hearts into building a place where every sip has a purpose.

I am excited to announce the commencement of new puppy and basic obedience classes starting June 2nd!☀️

The puppy class will begin at 5:00 PM and conclude around 6:00 PM, followed by the basic obedience class from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

We will meet weekly at these designated times.

Over time, this habit may escalate into issues such as pulling on the leash toward each person or dog during walks, barking, whining, or lunging. Consequently, your dog may prioritize seeking attention over responding to your commands, leading to a learned behavior where being demanding is perceived as a successful strategy to obtain what they desire.

You may be wondering how to address your dog's reactivity and promote a more calm demeanor during walks or in public spaces. The goal is to teach your dog that it is acceptable to relax while being rewarded for focusing on you rather than succumbing to distractions. It is important to advocate for yourself in public situations. Inform others that you are engaged in training with your dog and would appreciate avoiding any unwanted interactions that could inadvertently reinforce their reactive behavior. Give your dog the information they need to be successful and you might be surprised what your dog is capable of 🙌🏼

BUT ALSO REMEMBER - Training is a process that requires acknowledging every small win, but at times, it may be difficult to identify what milestones to celebrate

Here are some illustrative instances of what progress in dog training might look like.

YOU’RE MAKING PROGRESS WHEN YOU -

•Stop fretting over what others think and tune in to what your pup needs.

•Give yourself a break for not being a know-it-all and focus on kicking butt today.

•Ignore the noise of comparison and keep your eye on the prize. You got this!

•Skipping a training day won't kill ya. Relax, recharge, and bounce back stronger.

•Release those pesky expectations and soak up the present moment's wisdom.

It's essential to recognize that both you and your dog are embarking on a new training journey.

As the handler, it's vital to assess your confidence level, set clear boundaries for yourself and your dog while training in public, and stay motivated. Additionally, take time to check in with yourself on how you're feeling, your patterns and emotions, and remember that it's okay to take a break from training for a day.

Your role in this training process is vital, and being mindful of your own emotional and mental state will help ensure a successful outcome.

Group classes provide an excellent opportunity to train a dog from the ground up, as well as to challenge those that are already well-trained. While many individuals achieve commendable results with at-home training—which is certainly commendable—group classes offer unique advantages that cannot be replicated in a home setting.

1.DIFFICULT DISTRACTIONS: While walking your dog outdoors undoubtedly presents numerous distractions, participating in a group class offers significant advantages. In this setting, your trainer can systematically introduce distractions at a manageable pace, enabling you to address them in a controlled environment. This approach helps keep your dog within their comfort zone while gradually expanding their threshold for distractions.

2.IN-PERSON PROFESSIONAL HELP: It is essential to recognize that when participating in a group class, you are primarily investing in the knowledge and expertise of your trainer, which should not be underestimated. Although you may have a profound understanding of your dog, a trainer with experience working with hundreds, if not thousands, of dogs can provide invaluable insights. They may offer new perspectives on challenges you have been facing, potentially helping you to overcome obstacles in your training journey.SAFE

3.SOCIALIZATION: While taking your dog for a walk or on brief outings is an obvious way to facilitate socialization, there remains a risk that unforeseen circumstances may arise. Not all dog owners maintain control over their pets, and it is essential to avoid placing your dog in potentially hazardous situations that could hinder their development. Enrolling your dog in training classes is a prudent alternative, as these environments are structured to prioritize safety while simultaneously exposing your dog to a variety of other dogs and people.

4.DESENSITIZATION: Similar to number 1, you can obtain desensitization training through group classes that progress at a slow and gradually increasing pace. This training can expose your dog to various stimuli, such as barking dogs, doorbells, knocking sounds, and dogs passing by or playing. This approach provides a safe and effective method to help desensitize your pup!

🚨 It is important to recognize that not all trainers or training facilities are created equal. Ensure that your goals align with their training methodologies, and prioritize establishing trust and a sense of safety with your trainer.🚨

I am pleased to announce that, as of a few days ago, I have officially become an AKC Evaluator!

This enables me to assess dogs for the AKC Star Puppy program, Canine Good Citizen certification, and more. I am excited to share this news with you all, as I hope it will encourage more familiar faces to return to my classes.
