🐾💔 Caring for Our Canine Friends with Arthritis 🐕✨

As our furry companions age, many of them may face challenges like arthritis, which can make simple activities like walking, playing, or jumping difficult. Here are some tips to support your pup and ease their discomfort:

Regular Vet Checkups: Frequent visits to the veterinarian ensure that you’re monitoring your dog’s joint health and adjusting any treatment plans as needed. This is why we strongly advise MONTHLY chiropractic appointments!

Joint Supplements: Many on the market are great! But just as many are low quality. We discuss these in detail during your visits with us!

Gentle Exercise: Keep your dog moving with low-impact activities like swimming or leisurely walks. Regular movement can help maintain joint mobility without overexertion.

Weight Management: Keeping your dog at a healthy weight reduces stress on their joints. A balanced diet can make a big difference!

Comfortable Resting Areas: Provide soft bedding and minimize stairs to ensure your pup can rest comfortably. (Some pets do not like beds and prefer to lay on hard/cold ground.)

Therapeutic Treatments: Look into options like physical therapy, acupuncture, or laser therapy to relieve pain and improve mobility.

The Australian Cattle Dog is a strong compact, symmetrically built working dog, with the ability and willingness to carry out his allotted task however arduous.

Are you interested in this breed? The OFA, working with the Australian Cattle Dog Club of America, recommends the following basic health screening tests for all breeding stock:
- Hip Dysplasia (OFA or PennHIP)
- Elbow Dysplasia
- ACVO Eye Exam (24m age minimum)
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy prcd (DNA Test)
- Congenital Deafness (BAER)
- Primary Lens Luxation (DNA Test)
Optional but recommended:
- Patellar Luxation
- Cardiac Exam (Basic, Advanced, or Standard Congenital Cardiac Exam)
- Progressive Retinal Atrophy RCD4
- PennHip

Dogs meeting these basic health screening requirements are issued Canine Health Information Center (CHIC) numbers. For potential puppy buyers, CHIC certification is a good indicator the breeder responsibly factors good health into their selection criteria.

The comes in two colors: blue and red speckle
Color (Blue) – The color should be blue, blue-mottled or blue speckled with or without other markings. The permissible markings are black, blue or tan markings on the head, evenly distributed for preference. The forelegs tan midway up the legs and extending up the front to breast and throat, with tan on jaws; the hindquarters tan on inside of hindlegs, and inside of thighs, showing down the front of the stifles and broadening out to the outside of the hindlegs from hock to toes. Tan undercoat is permissible on the body providing it does not show through the blue outer coat. Black markings on the body are not desirable.

Color (Red Speckle) – The color should be of good even red speckle all over, including the undercoat, (neither white nor cream), with or without darker red markings on the head. Even head markings are desirable. Red markings on the body are permissible but not desirable.
