Three weeks ago today, this amazing 18.5 year old “big” dog in a little dog body, made his way peacefully to The Rainbow Bridge in the arms of his loving humans. Duncan entered the playrooms at Savvy Dog every Wednesday with a dignified presence that inspired even the most energetic pup to respectfully move aside and let him saunter by. I’m sure he was greeted @ “The Bridge” by his classmates who have gone before him with that same reverence and awe! ❤️
These goodbyes are really the only hard thing about my “job”. And even though the eventual loss of a beloved dog is “what we sign up for”, the gaping hole that is left in our hearts and our homes is still very real. Wednesdays will not be the same around here without this spunky guy but oh, how lucky we were to have had the pleasure of his company for as long as we did.
I’ll close with the following excerpt from the tribute paid to sweet Duncan by his Dad. The mutual joy that is inherent in strong human-dog relationships is a beautiful and inspiring blessing to me. 🥰
“For nearly 18 ½ years, Duncan was our everything. He was our Bubby-Boo and Mr. Little Puppy, he was our best friend, he was the sentry who kept all manner of furry intruders from invading his backyard kingdom, he was his mommy’s protector when daddy was away, and he was daddy’s handler when mommy was away. He was our entertainer and a near-constant source of joy, and he was my Furry Assistant and head of security (firmly parked on the floor outside my office door, only getting up to bark at something outside or to pester me for treats that were always freely given). But most of all, he was truly one of the best parts of our lives. Our love for him was true and unconditional, and I pray he felt the same way (I suspect he did).
………..
Godspeed Lord Duncan Johnnie Walker Kansas Ranger.”
