Happy Friday from TomTom! 🩷

A few weeks ago, we shared the heartbreaking story of a severely injured cat who arrived at our shelter in immense pain, with a long road to recovery ahead of him.

Today, we’re happy to report that TomTom is healing beautifully.

He’s become a staff favorite, spending his days rolling onto his back for attention, chatting with the other cats in our adoption room, and reminding us all just how resilient animals can be. His transformation has been nothing short of incredible.

TomTom is now ready for adoption and already has an adoption hold waiting for him. We couldn’t be more excited for the next chapter of his journey.

Stories like TomTom’s are possible because of compassionate supporters, dedicated veterinary care, and a community that believes every animal deserves a second chance.

We hope TomTom’s story brings a little extra joy to your Friday and a reminder of what’s possible when animals get the care they need.

Want to help pets just like TomTom? Make a donation today by visiting https://bit.ly/4v2ExbX. Your support helps provide lifesaving medical care, shelter, and second chances for animals who need us most.

This morning, two compassionate members of our community arrived at the shelter after finding a box containing three kittens at a lot they were mowing.

One of the kittens was so hungry that they made quite a mess of themselves, with canned wet food smeared all over their tiny face. Despite their rough start, they quickly settled into safety and comfort.

Throughout the day, the kittens stayed close with one of our staff members, curled up in a cozy spot while she worked on her computer. They will now head into a loving foster home where they can rest, grow, and continue their journey toward adoption.

We rely on our community to care for the most vulnerable. If you’ve ever thought about fostering, now is the perfect time to start. Apply today at https://hsgkc.org/volunteer-foster/foster-information/

Oreo entered our shelter after being found as a stray during the recent heat advisory. His thick, matted fur was so severe that it prevented air from reaching his skin and putting him at risk of overheating.

Today, Oreo got the relief he desperately needed. Our team safely sedated him and removed layers of matted fur. By the time they finished, he looked like a completely different dog and was visibly more comfortable.

Cases like Oreo’s are a reminder of why your support matters.

Every day, animals arrive at our shelter needing urgent medical care, shelter, and a second chance. From emergency veterinary treatment to specialized care, the costs add up quickly.

If you’d like to help more animals like Oreo receive the care they deserve, please consider making a donation by visiting https://l1nk.dev/8ibcrqq

Your generosity helps us provide immediate care for pets in crisis and gives them the opportunity for a brighter future.

Oreo was found as a stray in KCK. If you have any information regarding a potential owner please email [email protected] .

Did you know that about 1 in 3 pets will go missing at some point in their lifetime?

A microchip is a simple, permanent form of identification that can make all the difference if your pet ever becomes lost. Unlike collars and tags, a microchip stays with your pet and can help reunite them with their family when they’re found.

This National Microchipping Month, take an important step toward protecting your pet. We offer microchipping for just $30 through our affordable care clinic.

Looking for more ways to keep your pet healthy and safe? Our affordable care clinic also provides a variety of low-cost veterinary services designed to support pets and the people who love them.

Visit hsgkc.org to learn more about our services or to schedule your pet’s microchip appointment today.

This past Saturday, we provided lifesaving vaccines to hundreds of local pets during our Dose of Love vaccine event, hosted by Hollywood Casino at Kansas Speedway .

The dedication of pet owners was truly inspiring. We heard from attendees who arrived as early as 3:30 a.m. to make sure their pets could receive this important care. Seeing so many people prioritize the health and well-being of their animals reminds us why events like this matter.

This event would not have been possible without the support of our amazing partners and volunteers. A special thank you to Petco Love and Merck Animal Health for donating the vaccines that made this event possible. We are also incredibly grateful to Prairie Paws Animal Shelter for providing their mobile veterinary unit, giving us a safe and efficient space to vaccinate cats throughout the day.

Thank you to the many local veterinarians, veterinary technicians, volunteers, and community partners who donated their time, expertise, and energy to serve hundreds of pets and their families.

Together, we helped remove barriers to veterinary care and made a meaningful impact for pets across our community.

A special thanks to all of our sponsors!

Kansas City, the heat is coming!

With temperatures expected to climb into the 90s this week, now is the time to make sure your pets are prepared for the summer heat.

Dogs, cats, and other pets can suffer from heat stress and heat stroke much faster than many people realize, and these emergencies can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes.

We’ve put together some important safety tips, warning signs to watch for, and steps to take if your pet becomes overheated. Take a moment to review the information and help keep your furry family members safe, comfortable, and cool during the upcoming heat wave.

Please share this post to help spread the word and protect pets throughout our community.

Can we get Willow adopted before her first birthday?

Willow first came to HSGKC when she was just one week old. She was adopted last October, but she found her way back to the shelter at the end of May.

Now 11 months old, Willow is a sweet, loving dog who enjoys spending time with people and gets along well with dogs and kids. She would love a home where she can continue growing up surrounded by family instead of shelter walls. (She would do best in a home without cats.)

We don’t want Willow to spend her first birthday in a shelter. We’d love to see her curled up on a couch, making memories with the people who love her.

These orphaned kittens came to us after losing their mom to a coyote. At just about 4 weeks old, they still have a lot of growing to do, but first, it was time for them to go through our intake process.

Our intake process helps ensure every animal that comes through our doors starts their journey healthy, safe, and set up for success.

After all that hard work? They were completely wiped out and ended the day in the sweetest kitten nap pile.

These little ones aren’t quite ready for adoption yet and will likely head to foster care while they continue to grow.

Follow along to see how your support helps kittens like these get the care they need from day one.
