Zeb, AKA Cow, is looking for his forever home, ideally with a canine friend who wants a playmate. He's a young, friendly boy who loves to chew, play, snooze, and eat, not necessarily in that order. Loves his people, and sniffing out new trails. His Petfinder link is in comments.

Public Health Notice: Rabies-Positive Fox
Location: Salisbury - Statesville Blvd. and Hildebrand Rd.

A fox in the Salisbury area has tested positive for rabies. Rabies is fatal to people and animals once symptoms appear, but preventable through vaccination.

What residents should do:
Vaccinate your pets. North Carolina law requires that all dogs, cats, and ferrets 4 months of age and older be kept current on rabies vaccination.

$10 rabies vaccine: Make an appointment with the Rowan County Animal Shelter for a $10 rabies vaccination. (1-year) 704-216-7768, option 1.

Avoid contact with strays and wildlife. Do not touch or pick up wild or stray animals, especially if they are acting unusual (staggering, drooling, unusually aggressive, or paralysis).

If you see an animal behaving strangely or believe there has been a possible rabies exposure, call 704-216-7768, option 2.

Thank you for helping keep our community and pets safe.

Stanly County’s Second Confirmed Case of Rabies in 2025

Stanly County Health Department has received confirmation of its second case of rabies in 2025. The North Carolina State Laboratory of Public Health has confirmed a positive rabies test for a raccoon in the Norwood area associated with an exposure that took place on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Rabies is a deadly disease that is most often spread through the bite or saliva of a rabid animal. It can also be transmitted if infected saliva comes into contact with your eyes, nose, mouth, or an open wound.

The best way to prevent rabies is to prevent exposure. To keep yourself safe, practice these precautions:
-Do not approach or touch wildlife alive or dead
-Do not feed wildlife or attract wildlife to your yard
-Supervise pets while outside
-Keep pets vaccinated against rabies

If you have potentially been exposed to a rabid animal, immediately wash the exposed area with soap and clean running water for 15 minutes. Please contact Stanly County Health Department immediately at 704-982-9171.

If you see an animal that is behaving abnormally, call Stanly County Animal Protective Services at 704-986-3881. Signs of rabies in animals include aggression, excessive drooling, and staggering.

✨ Celebrating Vet Tech Month! ✨

Today (and every day!) we’re giving a huge shoutout to our amazing and talented Client Service Representatives (CSRs) for everything they do! 💙

Our CSRs are often the first and last friendly faces you see at our hospital. They greet you with kindness, empathy, and professionalism—even during some of the toughest moments. From helping you through emergencies to making sure every visit runs smoothly, their compassion and skill shine through in all they do.

They truly are the glue that holds our team together, and we absolutely could not do this without them! 🐾

What is a Veterinary CSR?

A Veterinary Client Service Representative (CSR) is a vital member of the veterinary team. They manage front desk operations, answer phone calls, handle transactions, and most importantly, provide exceptional support and comfort to both pets and their people.

Thank you, CSRs, for all that you are and all that you do! ❤️
