Up next, is Dr. Susan Winter. Dr. Susan grew up in Luxemburg, Iowa but currently resides in Ainsworth. She attended vet school at Iowa State University and began working for VMC in September of 2024. Dr. Susan enjoys working on a variety of animals and species, but she especially enjoys working with cattle and sheep.

In her free time, Susan enjoys spending time outdoors, on her acreage, with her fiance, her dog Sadie, and her British White cows. She also enjoys hiking and visiting National Parks. A fun fact about Dr. Winter is that she has over 60 house plants, some of which are thriving more than others :)

Up next, we're introducing Dr. Kathryn Hoyt. Dr. Kathryn grew up in Lincoln, NE but currently lives in Tiffin with her husband Dakota and their two dogs, Hunter and Harvey. Dr. Kathryn attended the University of Missouri for vet school and has been with VMC for 1.5 years now. She enjoys working primarily with cattle and small ruminant patients, but isn't afraid to branch out occassionally.

Outside of work, you can find Kathryn crocheting, baking, hiking, cuddling with her dogs, or riding on the back of her husband's motorcycle. A couple fun facts about Kathryn are she broke her first bone a year ago (preg checking cows at work 🙃) and she recently got married, hence the name change!

It's been a busy start to Fall here at VMC, but we would like to get back to introducing the members of our team!

Our next introduction is Dr. Marvin Slabaugh. Dr. Slabaugh completed his veterinary education at the University of Minnesota and currently resides here in Kalona.

Dr. Marvin may be a familiar face to many of you, as he has practiced for over 30 years at Kalona Veterinary Clinic prior to it merging into Veterinary Medical Center of Kalona this past year. We are thrilled to have Dr. Slabaugh continuing to serve our small animal clients with his expertise and years of experience!

When Dr. Marvin is not at work, he enjoys hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family; which includes his wife Betsy, their three adult children, one grandchild, two dogs and two cats.

🌟INTERN SPOTLIGHT🌟

Our second intern spotlight is Bronwyn Brenneman. Bronwyn originally grew up in Parnell, Iowa and is currently a senior at William Penn University in Oskaloosa, studying Biology. She is on a pre-veterinary track and hopes to later attend veterinary school.

Her favorite part about her summer at VMC was getting to work with all the doctors and the wide range of exciting new experiences she got to endure from office life to wrangling billy goats, it was always a good time!

A fun fact about Bronwyn is that she is on the William Penn women’s wrestling team and will be starting her senior season of collegiate wrestling soon.

We would like to extend our thanks to Bronwyn for all her hard work this summer and want to wish her the best of luck in all her future endeavors.

✨INTERN SPOTLIGHT ✨

At Veterinary Medical Center, we enjoy teaching the next generation of young veterinarians! This summer we were grateful to have two, hardworking, summer interns.

Our first intern spotlight is McKinley Chittick. McKinley is originally from Harper, Iowa and recently graduated from Sigourney High School. This Fall McKinley will be a Freshman at Iowa State University studying Animal Science with plans to later attend veterinary school.

Her favorite part of the summer at VMC was experiencing the exciting new adventures and daily challenges that come with being a veterinarian. A fun fact about McKinley is that her favorite food is Mexican.

We want to thank McKinely for spending the summer with us at VMC and wish her the best of luck in her future endeavors!
