I’m a few days late on posting this! But I got to work on Bounce again this past week! He reminds me so much of my horse, Bristol. Both young, wiggly thoroughbreds and so expressive!😅

He had a lot to say about his sore spots being worked on, but also had several great releases!

We think a lot of his tension is from ulcers. His mom has been treating him for it and now we’re working through his pain muscle memory.

He is so lucky to have a mom that understands and works through his pain and doesn’t chalk it up to behavioral issues!

Thank you for trusting me your boy, Sam! Can’t wait to see y’all again!

I did a full Bemer & massage on Bristol the other day. To be honest, my own horse had me stumped on some of her areas of tension. I couldn’t figure out why after weeks of bodywork, ground pole work, stretching, etc.. that something with her was still “off”. She wasn’t gaining muscles and losing weight, her top line continued to lose muscle mass, and she was short stepping while being worked. But after putting a few puzzle pieces together, I’ll be starting her on an ulcer treatment, tweaking her diet a little bit, changing her environment for the better, then essentially starting from the beginning with her rehab!

Rehabbing horses absolutely is not linear and hitting bumps in their recovery is more common than not.

But I absolutely love it! Helping horses is the number one reason why I got my Equine Massage & Rehab Certification and continue to take continued learning class. Bristol herself has been one of the best teachers I’ve had. She definitely knows how to keep the curveballs coming! 🤪

🙌🏽 “Physical Therapy” day for my own horses yesterday! They got THE WORKS!

They each got a Bemer session, followed by basic lunging for a few minutes, then ended with massage and stretching!

After the cold spell, they both enjoyed getting out and moving around, stretching their legs, and warming up those muscles. They felt so good and relaxed after!

Let me know if you’d like to hook your horse up with THE WORKS to stay supple throughout the winter! These cold temps can be really hard on our horse’s bodies. Let me help them stay happy and comfortable this winter!l

I’m sure everyone around here has heard of the EHV virus going around in quite a few states.

So far there are not any recorded cases in MT. Fingers crossed it stays that way!

I just wanted to let y’all know that there are a few things I’ll be doing to make sure I keep your horses healthy!

✨ I ordered medical grade sanitation wipes for my Bemer Blanket and will use them in between every horse. They will be here Wednesday, so I won’t be using the Bemer on any horses but my own until then.

✨ I will ask that we use your own fleece or fly sheet in between your horse and the Bemer blanket during sessions instead of sharing my Bemer fleece with several horses. I only have one!

✨ I won’t schedule more than one facility or property for the day. More than one horse at each property is fine. I will clean everything between them. *My hands included*.

✨ I’ll have extra clothes with me if there are more than one horse and you’d feel safer if I changed.

✨ I won’t do body work or use my Bemer on my own horses the days I have clients scheduled.

If there’s anything else y’all can think of, let me know! I’ll do everything I can to keep all of our ponies safe and healthy!

🙏🏽 Praying that it stays out of Montana this go around!

🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 Just a few facts about Massage & Rehab!

Why Some Horses Feel “Different” the Day After a Massage

It’s normal for a horse to feel a little loose, wiggly, or slightly uncoordinated the day after bodywork. This isn’t a setback — it’s a sign the body and nervous system are reorganizing after tension releases.

Why It Happens

1. The Brain–Body Map Just Updated

Massage changes how the body moves and how the brain senses it. When old restrictions release, the horse needs 24–48 hours to recalibrate balance and coordination.

2. Fascia Is Rehydrating and Reorganizing

Fascia gains glide and elasticity after bodywork. As it reshapes, the horse may feel temporarily loose or “floppy” while new tension lines settle.

3. Muscle Tone Drops Before It Rebalances

Protective tension turns off first, and postural muscles turn on second. That short gap can feel like softness or mild instability.

4. Proprioception Is Resetting

The horse is getting a flood of new sensory information. The nervous system needs a bit of time to interpret it and organize new, freer movement.

5. Old Patterns Are Gone — New Ones Are Forming

When restrictions release, the old compensation disappears instantly. The new, healthier pattern takes a little time to establish.

Normal for 24–48 Hours

✔ Slight wobbliness
✔ Extra bendiness
✔ Feeling loose or “disconnected”
✔ Mildly behind the leg

Usually by day 2–3, movement improves noticeably.

Not Normal

✘ Lameness
✘ Heat or swelling
✘ Sharp pain
✘ Symptoms worsening after 48 hours

These need veterinary attention.

How to Support Integration
• Light walk work or hacking
• Hand walking
• Gentle stretching
• Turnout and hydration
• Pole work after 48–72 hours

Movement helps lock in new patterns.

Why Some Horses Recalibrate and Others Don’t

Every horse’s response reflects their unique body:

A horse may need more integration time if they’re:
• tight or guarded
• weak in stabilizing muscles
• coming out of chronic patterns
• sensitive or older
• less body-aware

A horse may feel great immediately if they’re:
• already symmetrical
• strong and conditioned
• biomechanically correct
• quick to adapt neurologically
• had fewer restrictions to begin with

Both responses are normal — they simply tell you a different story about the horse’s body and nervous system.

🙌🏽A lot of times horses need to warm up to the idea of bodywork & massages. During a few of my clients first sessions, I didn’t get a lot of big expressions and releases like this. That’s not to say the tension wasn’t released first time! You can tell in before and after pictures and MOST IMPORTANTLY how your horse moves after bodywork. It just means they are more comfortable with you and processing that bodywork feels good, even if it’s a little ouchy at first!

🙌🏽 Ember was exactly like that. Her first session, she was skeptical of me and didn’t show to many outwardly “dramatic” releases. But for her second massage she was chewing, yawning, and even snuggling me - telling me she liked what was going on this time.

🙌🏽 So even though your horse might not be expressive the first time, give it a couple more chances and they’ll start to melt with their bodywork! And remember, if they aren’t showing signs like this, it doesn’t mean the bodywork isn’t working! Your horse is just processing! But I do have to say, big releases like this are always fun to see and rewarding! 🥰
