Update: 3/14/25 - Yesterday our new little girl arrived and is just amazing. She is a Tesla granddaughter, and Dar X Sierra Great Granddaughter! 4th generation came back to us and we are so thankful to her breeder Syvanna Palmer for entrusting her to us. This morning we woke to the sound we have not heard since Teslas passing! Between 5-6am we heard the sound of baby Tessa howling like Tesla did! That made us both cry tears of joy at memories past. We feel so blessed today! We are so grateful and this has brought us so much joy!!!

Update: We’re absolutely blown away by the outpouring of love and support we’ve received lately; it’s like a warm hug when we really needed it. Since the events of May 2024, we’ve been a bit like hermits, retreating into our grief and finding it tough to reach out to the amazing people we’ve known for years. Talking about it has been a challenge, but I want you all to know how much I appreciate each of you.

The loss of a cherished pet can leave an indelible mark on a family, prompting many to seek a new companion that embodies the qualities of the one they lost. In this pursuit, I discovered Suzi and Marc Newman’s collies, renowned for their commitment to the Collie breed, and breeding dogs free from the MDR1 gene, which renders many common medications dangerous for collies. Suzi’s dedication to this cause stemmed from a tragic incident involving one of her beloved dogs, which succumbed to the effects of a medication after consuming contaminated horse droppings. This experience ignited her mission to eliminate the MDR1 gene through careful breeding practices, a process that required several generations of dogs and rigorous testing.

Upon learning about Suzi’s work, I was eager to find a female puppy from her current litter, hoping to welcome a new member into our family who would not only be healthy but also carry the spirit of our late collie. Despite my preference, Suzi informed me that only a male puppy remained. However, recognizing the profound grief we were experiencing, she generously offered us the female puppy she had intended to keep for breeding. This act of kindness exemplified her compassion and understanding of the bond between humans and their pets.

Our gratitude towards Suzi and Marc Newman cannot be overstated. The female puppy they entrusted to us not only resembled our previous collie, a descendant of the famous TV Lassie, but also symbolized a new beginning. With her arrival, we felt a renewed sense of joy and hope, knowing that we had found a companion who would be both healthy and a reminder of the love we shared with our departed friend. Suzi’s commitment to breeding healthier collies is commendable, and we are fortunate to have been a part of her mission.

The Newman family, known for their deep affection for collies, faced a significant life change when Marc, the family provider, and caretaker of prize-winning horses, suffered a debilitating back injury. This unfortunate incident not only forced him to leave his position but also compelled the family to vacate the beautiful horse farm he managed. In a show of solidarity, friends offered them a place to stay on their property while they sought new accommodations, highlighting the importance of community support during challenging times.

During this transitional period, Suzi Newman continued her devoted care for their dogs, often preparing homemade meals based on her own recipes. However, the limitations of cooking in a RV proved to be a challenge. One evening, fatigued and pressed for time, Suzi made the decision to purchase two bags of commercial dog food, believing it would serve as a temporary solution for feeding their beloved pets. This decision, however, would lead to a tragic outcome.

The following morning, the Newman family was devastated to discover that over twenty of their dogs, including several puppies from a current litter, had died after consuming the commercial food. Only three dogs, who had not eaten the food, survived this heartbreaking incident. This tragedy was a devastating and unprecedented loss.

Marc and Suzi's deep bond with their exceptional collies has been a cornerstone of their lives. The loss of nearly all their beloved dogs, which they had painstakingly bred over generations, has left them heartbroken and financially strained. The unfortunate incident has not only robbed them of their cherished companions but also significantly impacted their ability to manage their farm, leading to a drastic change in their lifestyle. With limited support from the dog food company, which offered only two free bags of dog food, Marc and Suzi have turned to delivering for DoorDash, seeking to distract themselves from their grief while trying to maintain a semblance of financial stability.

In light of their situation, a fundraising initiative has been launched by us to assist Marc and Suzi in acquiring a new property with ample acreage. This would allow them to resume their passion for breeding collies and to welcome new puppies into their lives. The emotional and financial support from the community is crucial for them to rebuild what they have lost and to restore joy to their home. The funds raised will not only facilitate the purchase of land but will also cover essential expenses for genetic testing. This testing is vital to ensure their future breeding lines remain free from the MDR1 gene and other hereditary health issues that can affect collies and similar breeds.

The community's involvement in this fundraising effort is commendable and reflects a shared understanding of the profound bond between humans and their canine companions. By contributing, individuals are not only helping Marc and Suzi regain their footing but also ensuring the continuation of a legacy built on love and dedication to the breed. Supporting this cause is an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on their lives and to honor the memory of the dogs that brought them so much love and joy.

About Us

Welcome to Wind Whispers Farm, LLC & S Newman Photography!

We are changing and growing always, and there are many exciting things happening. We can Always make improvements, and be better.

Our goal at Wind Whispers Farm is doing the things we love to do. Our Collies are our life. We enjoy every day with them. They bring us so much joy.

We have many goals with our Collies and we will share some here. One goal that we have admired and wish to achieve is to bring some fresh genetics into the collie lines, keeping good health and structure, and also bring the Bi-Black color back into the Collie breed. We found Ebony a about 2 years ago and our first litter is on the ground. Photos are on our website, and they are gorgeous. We have a working OTSCA line and will be completing our adult registrations with them soon.
