Every competition is a learning experience, and each of my students rose to the challenges like champs last weekend. This guy is happy with his 75.855% but I think he cares more about treats.😊

This weekend I was again reminded of why I do what I do. I see people every day that love their horses and want to partner with them on meaningful levels. I had new students at the clinic this weekend and in the lessons I spent a lot of time explaining how to understand their horse's thought processes and body language, how to gently and properly communicate cues until their horse learns what is being asked and why, and how to reward them along the way. At the end of the lesson one student literally cried tears of joy and said "I never knew we could do that." Another new student signed up to ride the first day, and after the lesson signed up for the remaining two days. A student I've taught regularly also cried happy tears after what she and her horse accomplished together this weekend. It's not unlike any other relationship. It's all about the communication, and listening to your horse is the biggest part. Oh, and your trainer.😊

Thank you everyone for another great weekend.

Exactly What I Needed 🫢

"I spent the entire vacation going back and forth about it: Is he too small for me? Can he do the things I want to do? Is he worth the investment? My husband was probably sick of my musing, and at one point, he said, 'Julie, how does he make you feel?' I nearly cried thinking about him leaving. Pure joy, that’s what he makes me feel."

Here, a rider from USDF Region 2 shares the story of the little powerhouse who may not have been what she was looking for, but turned out to be exactly what she needed to reignite her love of dressage after a traumatic fall.
