Honey and I visited the Cancer Center today. She was happy to see her friends in the staff area and visit new acquaintances on the 4th floor. It feels good to make people smile during a difficult time.

Autumn, Banks and I made a short jaunt down to Shipshewana on Saturday and Sunday to show in Conformation, Nosework and Rally Obedience at the All American Bulldog Club's 20th annual event which is also a Total Dog Invitational Qualifier.

Autumn had two really great days of Conformation and performance placements, earning Total Dog Awards each Day. This makes her double qualified for the Total Dog Invitational having also qualified at the Midwest Classic earlier this year.

On Saturday, she was awarded Reserve Altered Best in Show by Judge Diane Price! She also placed 3rd in Master Vehicles.

On Sunday she earned 2 Altered Best of Breeds over an Altered male by judges Sharon Griffin and Diane Price. Autumn also passed two Advanced Exterior searches both with First place times. She went on to compete in Rally Obedience Master for scores of 100 and 95 with First and 2nd place times.

Banks earned his SPOT-ON certification on Saturday but had no luck in Conformation and struggled with false alerts in his vehicle searches.

On Sunday he earned a Total Dog Award with two Best of Breed (judges Donna Beadle and Sharon Griffin) wins and a Group 3 under Sharon Griffin!

He also passed his Novice Exterior search for a 3rd place, and earned two perfect scores of 100 in Rally 3 for two 1st placements. This makes him triple qualified for the Total Dog Invitational having qualified at the Midwest Classic, Premier, and now the AABC RQE already this year!

Thanks to the AABC, Trail Creek Dog Training Club, and K9 Fanciers for hosting last weekend's Conformation, Rally, and Nosework events. We greatly appreciate all of the workers, club members, and other competitors that make these trials a success!

Also, a BIG thanks to Paige Spitsberg for taking care of my dogs at home while she was celebrating a big weekend of her own!

And to my competant and caring kennel staff of Bella, Becca, Serena, and Rachel, who took care of kennel dogs and clients so I could get away!

Well another Premier is in the books! Autumn and Banks were my only two competition dogs this year because I forgot to enter Honey in Rally Master All Stars! Wish I had rememenbered because I really missed showing her there this year. She's the one who got me started going to Premier 3 years ago.

Our weekend started on Thursday with Autumn scoring a 98 in Rally Master at the All Stars competition for a 5th place and a beautiful ribbon under judge James Comunale.

Friday, Banks and Autumn both competed in Rally at the Rally 2 and Master levels respectively, both scoring 96 points under judge Karen Stivers. Autumn also qualified in Master Container on Friday to earn her title. Banks qualified in 2 Novice Interior runs to earn his title and a 3rd place in Trial 1. He false alerted in both Advanced Container trials but had to take a p**p as soon as he got outside so he might have been a little distracted!! LOL!

On Saturday, both dogs competed in conformation with Banks winning both the Champion and Best of Breed classes against competition under Judge Marian Campbell! The judge said she loved that Banks was so fit and looked like a nice working dog. I said "he is"! He went on to compete in Gun Dog and Total Dog groups without placements thought he did make the final cut with the Total Dog Gun Dog Group judge. Autumn had competition and got Reserve Altered champion over one other dog so she did not go on to the Altered group.

Today, I traveled to Adrian to run a shed dog event with Wrigley and Abby put on by the Southeast Michigan Shed Hunters Club and the Center for Sustainable Agriculture. Both dogs qualified on the Champion course.

I'm really tired after competing over the past few days and doing the late night let outs of 30 dogs at the kennel. I finished with kennel dogs at midnight last night and got up at 4 am to travel to Adrian to make it to the shed hunt to day.

This crazy dog world!

Happy 4th Birthday to the Honey X Sam litter. Abby, Wrigley, Pepper, Bella, Ash, Blaze, and the rest of the pack.

About Us

Our name "Newfound Retrievers" honors the ancestral heritage of the Labrador Retriever which began sometime in the 1800's on the island of Newfoundland, now a province of Newfoundland and Labrador Canada.

The founding breed of the Labrador was the St. John's water dog, a small, short-coated dog (also known then as the Lesser Newfoundland) which was used for retrieval and pulling in nets from the water. These smaller dogs were the forebears of the Labrador Retriever. The white chest, feet, chin, and muzzle - known as tuxedo markings - characteristic of the St. John's Dog will occasionally appear in modern Labradors as a small white spot on the chest (known as a medallion) or stray white hairs on the muzzle or feet (bolo paws).

The Labrador Retriever breed standard was eventually written in 1878 originating from two dogs: Peter of Faskally (owned by Mr. A. C. Butter) and

Flapper (owned by Major Portal).
