If you’re riding a horse that feels like it might misbehave (buck, balk, spin, drop a shoulder), chances are they need to be more forward. It can feel counterintuitive to ask this type of horse for more energy but their antics are likely evasions to going forward.

Glenda is a great example of this. Riding her with plenty of forward momentum in a big open space helps her move out. Fewer turns and bigger circles make it easier for her to balance and less likely to get crooked. I just have to be ready for a dose of rocket fuel when I ask her for more 🚀

We’ll be moving and breathing our way to a calm state with yoga coach Morgan, and then learning how horses and humans exchange energy.

Working Student opportunity near PSU!!

Hollow Valley Farm has an opening for a working student. The ideal candidate is a confident rider with experience riding OTTB’s and/or green horses.
In exchange for feeding and chores, you would help maintain a training program for several OTTB’s at various stages of development (from green to schooling 2nd level dressage and jumping 3’). Lessons required 2x month but can also be worked off. Looking for someone who can commit to riding at least two days a week.

You will also get exposure to in-hand training techniques and rehabilitation methods.

This is an excellent opportunity for a solid rider looking to work in exchange for saddle time, learning and growth.

The slow and steady transition from hay to grass in spring feels like it takes forever, but the wait is worth it. The pastures graze better all season and the horses have time to adjust to the forage change. Managing pastures takes me more time than feeding hay, but it somehow feels like less work.
