🎺🎺WE HAVE ANOTHER ANNOUNCEMENT!!!🎺🎺

Tri-State Kennel Club is very excited to announce our first AKC Fit Dog Class!!! The class will be heavy on safety and building a positive relationship with your dog. Don't worry! It's a fit DOG class, not a fit owner class. This is geared towards teaching you how to teach your dog to work out. The content of this course can be applied to many dog sports like Fast CAT, Agility, Rally, etc, but is equally great in setting your dog up for success with all the spring/summer fun like hiking, kayaking, 5ks, swimming and the like.

Recently, one of our club members was asked a great question. An individual was interested in our Fetch trial, but their dogs are not registered with AKC. The question was-Does my dog have to be registered with AKC papers? The answer is yes, but maybe not the way you think. Your dog does have to be listed with AKC, but AKC has two programs designed for mixed breeds or purebred dogs not registered with AKC.

AKC PAL, or Purebred Alternative Listing, is designed for purebred dogs who are not otherwise able to be registered with AKC. For example, they could be registered with a registry not recognized by AKC, their parents could lack paperwork or the breeder may not have registered the litter. Tucker, the Poodle (photo credit to Ronda Murphy is registered with registries the AKC does not recognize) but got his PAL registration and is able to participate in a wide variety of events such as Canine Good Citizen, Trick Dog, Fast CAT, Scent Work, Rally, Fit Dog, Barn Hunt and Fetch.

AKC Canine Partners is designed for mixed breed, or "All American", dogs. Stitch, the probably boxer and pit bull mix (photo credit to Oddpaw Studio), is able to participate in Fast CAT, Fit Dog, and is fine-tuning his skills for some other events.

Both PAL and Canine Partners require spay/neuter prior to entering a competition. All of Tri-State Kennel Club's events and programs except our annual Conformation show are open to PAL and Canine Partners dogs. If you are interested in learning more about AKC sports or TSKC programs, we will have a booth at Third Thursday on March 20th. Please stop and chat with us.

Last night some Tri State members were asked to fill in a programming slot for the Newton County 4H lock-in. The theme was dogs. Our presentation included information about agility, barn hunt, dock diving and demos on scent work, rally, conformation, obedience, and weight pull. They were a fantastic group!!! Thank you so much for having us!

We are pleased to announce a beginner class for Scent Work!!! This 6 week class will be taught by AKC Judge Misty Bowen!!! Students will meet at the club building while Misty will instruct remotely via Zoom. This class will begin Wednesday, January 22nd at 6:30 PM. The class fee of $100 will include a beginner kit including an airtight box. Hurry! This class is filling fast.
