Today shattered my heart.
We said goodbye to Batman — the dog who helped raise us, who waited at the bus stop, who guarded the house, who loved us harder than anything else in the world.
He didn’t need a cape to be a superhero. He was just Batman — our Batman.
He was our protector, our best friend, our family.
He loved fiercely. He loved Aurora. He loved us. He lived to be by our sides.
We used to joke and call him “Fatman” when he got a little too spoiled (which, if you knew us, was basically all the time).
Over the last year, we had him on a strict diet to help him lose weight — and it seemed like it was working…
But the truth was, something much crueler was happening behind the scenes.
Cancer was stealing him from us. Tumors took over his stomach, his intestines, his whole body before we even realized what was happening.
This past week, everything changed so fast. He wasn’t the same. He was tired. He hurt.
And today, we made the decision no one ever wants to make — the one you make when you love them too much to let them keep hurting.
There’s no way to explain how broken my heart feels right now.
Batman was around 14 years old — we never knew his exact birthday — but he packed more life and love into his years than most ever do.
I also feel like I have to say this:
Cancer in dogs is real, it’s cruel, and it can move faster than you can even comprehend.
Certain breeds, like Poodles (who are now such a huge part of my life), are prone to different types of cancer, and it terrifies me.
I hope and pray I never have to walk this road again with my poodles.
Please — love your dogs deeply. Get them checked. Trust your gut when something feels off.
Sometimes cancer hides. Sometimes it wins.
But love wins too — because Batman knew he was loved every second of his life.
Today, we lost a piece of our family.
And the world feels a lot emptier without him in it.
I love you forever, Batman.
Thank you for loving us right back — every minute of every day.
