The increase is not just in PEI..20-25 yrs ago it was not found in ANY coyotes in KS...Now, it is found in 41% of them in KS and MO...it has been detected in coyotes in 15 states..the closest one to PA is OH so it is only a matter of time til we see it here...AND praziquantel ONLY kills the tapeworm itself, it has no effect on the cysts that form and be deadly..

Residents are being warned a tapeworm mainly found in foxes and coyotes has been found in P.E.I. at levels higher than previously detected.

This is very scary...it mainly affects livestock and wildlife BUT it can also affect humans and our pets...it was eradicated from the US in the 1960s but it is possible that a NWS breach could occur at the border.....the AVMA and CDC have more info if you are interested....
