Let me tell you guys, today has been a real day.
Now there is always the question of how long the clinic's page is going to continue here because this platform no longer has the relevance it did 10 years ago. It is, however, relevant for this:
There are some of you out there who really need to check their behavior as clients.
Today was an incredibly hectic day. One so hectic, I didn't really get to have lunch. And this afternoon was spent dealing with overflow appointments AND a serious emergency in a cat. Meanwhile, there were several clients dumbfounded that I as a single doctor -- and you all know I am a single doctor here -- couldn't get back to their specific phone calls. They then repeatedly called wondering why I couldn't give them individual time instantly.
Look, I know I am the vet in town with the most rizz & drip, but I and my staff can only do so much. You aren't going to pull me away from a cat that needs a coffee mug's worth of fluid sucked out of its chest to live just so we can chat. You call your doctor for a follow up, they want you to schedule an appointment; or you have to wait 24-48 hours to get an answer. I am just asking you to wait until the end of the day.
And you better believe that I and many other vets know that the language and tone you use with us is often different from the tone you address our staffs with. And I have fired clients over it before and will likely do so again.
We're just looking for some grace here. This staff is doing a lot of work for a lot of animals. We recognize that the majority of you recognize our efforts. But for those that don't, it is wearing thin. And believe me, we hold our tongues when stuff gets under our skin. Sometimes it is a Herculean effort not to clap back.
That being said, everyone in the clinic today saw how insane the afternoon was. Everyone saw what we were doing, were understanding and patient. And they understood why today for me was... *checks clock*... 11 hours. We at the clinic appreciate your grace.
Again though, I and the staff can only do so much. And when we do too much, we make mistakes. And hate to say it, but the veterinary shortage isn't getting better anytime soon. We are going to continue to do our best, but that needs understanding on your parts too.
