“We Got you…”

At this time yesterday morning, I thought my day was going to end unbelievably bad. As you know, we found Henry in 90 minutes. As I know, an 8lb. dog doesn’t have much time to be lost in the woods. 2 hours I kept thinking but it’s actually about 4.

As a certified professional Behaviorist/ Trainer, I have no clue why my dog just… ran away fast. A lot of stimuli = blind panic, period.

I’d like to personally thank people starting with those at the beginning.

The Joliet Police Department first and foremost. Two officers saw Henry go before I did. Twice they stopped traffic for me- once when I was on foot, once in my van. I didn’t say anything to them. They just got it. They only said one thing to me, twice; “We got you!” And I pause because it’s hard to write that because it makes me ugly cry. My ‘hood cops made a hole for me twice.

Secondly, “Random Mark”, a guy walking around who ran to me and said “What Can I Do?” I handed him my keys and said drive my van around….? He did for 90 mins.

3rd, Cozy Pawz Dog Day Care 1/2 mile east of us. NOT my competitor by the way. We don’t think that way. PetSmart trainers dismiss “concerning” dogs from their classes and send them to us. We send frail tiny old dogs to them. We all do different stuff.

Anyway, we are super grateful to OWNER and staff for mobilizing as well. That was unbelievable to hear they hit the trails. Come on! Not a great way for us to finally meet but we’ll certainly stop in this week :)

And most importantly and my family will forever be grateful.

Two of our BrightDogs family members responded to our post immediately and told us they didn’t hesitate to commit their day to finding Henry. And THEY are the ones who found him

Mark Young and Michelle Felkins literally saved Henry’s life when they found him by a bridge near the water where his brother Queso had just walked through minutes earlier. More on this later but by map- Henry followed Queso and I but we went into the water. That’s where Henry cried out when Mark heard him. 🤔

We are grateful for our clients, for your dogs, for the job I get to go to every day. People ask me all the time, “You here all day?”… Of course! Where else would I be? I live 2,000 feet away. I’m not in traffic and not a desk. And when I walk into this job, everyone goes crazy and kisses me and stuff. That never happened in banking. Pffft

Yesterday BORE a new sense of gratitude for me. I made another stupid mistake but I feel like I was given an unbelievable second chance. I’m a "Science and Fact" person but when you find yourself soaked in mud carrying a shoe, lost in the woods, breathless, I don’t know, you start making deals with whoever can hear you. Queso and I had to just stop in a parking lot. He splatted. Two seconds later. He was found.

We are grateful for our BrightDogs. This was a reminder for me of what’s truly important. Helping build a Community. More on that in my second part.

He has been found!!!
Thanks to the Bright dogs community. Henry was found about a half a mile from where he took off by one of our clients. We cannot thank you enough thank you for putting the word out and thank you for helping us.

Help!!! He is was at work today with Kyle and he slipped out of his leash. He is chipped! And will do anything for a snack! This is Henry. Please help us find him.

UPDATE: REUNITED!! Henry is home safe & sound after 1 hours, 30 minutes :)

Days like today make me ponder fate and destiny- amazing coincidences, odds, what ifs. I almost didn’t go to a random adoption event way up north. It was Saturday and told Dee I was tired and let’s wait. And then I actually thought, But what if?

What if I hadn’t said ahh, WTH that October 1st and said Let’s Go. What if I didn’t insist on seeing the big puppy in the corner covered by everyone’s coats? What if I hadn’t sat there racing the guy next to me to fill out his adoption paperwork? Not Happening, Dude 🖊️ 📄 👋.

What if…? No Maximus, no “Bubby”. No thousands of miles walked, no muddy football, no arms covered in cuts and scratches in business meetings (PLAD!), no Bubby and Lulu tea parties.

There is an article floating around about Chicago shelters and all shelters in general. There is a photograph from last weekend of people standing in line to surrender their dogs and cats

I have a lot of conversations in my lobby with people who are considering, maybe, been thinking about, maybe adopting. If you can, the time is now.

Or fostering…. I always hear, “I can’t foster… I’ll cry. It’s too sad “. Let me tell you, it’s the best ugly cry you’ll ever have handing a foster over to their new family.

As young teens, our kids fostered dogs in our home in the summer. It was THEIR job. No screen staring when you have fosters, just saying. And, out of 35ish fosters , we only kept two dogs and one cat 🤷‍♂️. Not bad.

Your Best Dog (adopt an old cat too!) may be waiting at Hopeful Tails, Will County Humane Society, Joliet Animal Control, TLC, etc.

Thank you for all the Birthday wishes. It was a great day! Special thanks to Bruno’s family for their generous gifts including this box of perfection- I should have done a tik tok…. When everyone hesitates to eat their postre because it’s such a piece of art and then finding it tastes as amazing as it looks, that’s special!

I have no vested interest in La Rosa Postres but I see artistry and passion and I will wave that around when I can. Skip the drive-thru donut and walk in to work with this masterpiece of flavor! TY, KB
