💥🎇🎆 4th of July means fireworks & loud festivals, and fireworks means scared pets and pets going missing. 4th of July is the biggest day of the year when pets go missing. I’m making this post of important reminders & tips in hopes of keeping pets safe this 4th of July. Festivities will be starting this weekend and will be continuing all next week, so hopefully this list of tips I’ve made helps you to keep your pets safe 🎆🎇💥
⚠️ make sure your pets have on their collars with ID tags, and that the information is up to date
⚠️ make sure if your pet is microchipped, that the information is up to date
⚠️ do not leave your pet outside unattended
⚠️ if you know that you will need some type of medication, sedative, calming oil, etc., don’t wait until the last minute - contact your vet now, or get it from the store or online NOW if you don’t have any on hand
⚠️ make sure you have a very current photo of your pet just in case they get loose and go missing
⚠️ make sure all outdoor gates are locked and fencing is secure
⚠️ make sure all indoor doors and windows are locked and secure
⚠️ be sure to drown out the fireworks the best you can with music or television
⚠️ be sure to walk your dog earlier, and have them go out earlier to use the bathroom
⚠️ be sure when walking your dog that their collar is one they can’t slip out of
⚠️ before letting them out, check for firework debris that may have landed on your property
⚠️ provide your pet with a calm, quiet and safe place (rooms such as closets or bathrooms that have all inside walls that don’t have outside walls work best)
⚠️ provide your pet with a distracting treat or toy such as a peanut butter filled Kong
⚠️ don’t reprimand your pet for feeling upset or scared. You, yourself, need to remain calm as well. Animals feed off of our emotions and energy.
If you have any additional tips, suggestions, recommendations you’d like to share, please feel free to add them in the comments 🙂
