Tonight we said goodbye to Phoebe
Phoebe was born 8/22/22 and lived to be over 33 months old. She was sent home with three others and lived a great life with her forever family until she outlived all of her companions. Not wanting her to be left alone, she was returned to the rattery in August 2024, already a senior.
She had some personality quirks, mostly a "leave me be or pay the price" attitude which we have thankfully been able to breed away from over the years. Despite that, she was a real pleasure to have around. She got along great with our more bossy ladies and made amazing friends with one in particular, her niece Shona. The two were almost inseparable.
We sadly said goodbye to Shona last week due to age related health decline, and despite having other friends Phoebe took a turn downhill shortly after. We're thankful they were not separated for long and can spend eternity together once more.
We are grateful to her family who thought to bring her back. We will always take back any of our home bred rats at any stage for any reason, and truly appreciate the adopters who take the time to reach out and coordinate a return with us. Often times we are able to find those rats a new loving home, but once in a while we hang onto them until their time comes, and ensure they have the best care possible through to the end.
