Day 4

Reproductive Health

Rosemary Leaves

Rosemary leaves are an excellent source of calcium, iron and potassium. Your bird will also benefit from rosemary in their diet as it is sometimes has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial and calming properties. It also improves specific quality metrics such as shell thickness which will help prevent egg binding.

Raspberry leaves

Raspberry leaves are traditionally used as a uterine tonic to support a healthy reproductive cycle and may help balance hormonal issues. It also can help strengthen and tone uterine muscles after laying an egg, which can be beneficial for supporting the reproductive system and regulating the reproductive cycle. They also have a calming property, they have vitamin B6 in which may help balance reproductive hormones and associated behaviors like aggression and mood changes during hormonal surges.

I put them in a grinder and make a powder and sprinkle it over their pellets :) 🙌

Evidently I need to clear something up! Sooooo, my daughter and husband was on Amazon looking at things, evidently they hit the favorite button on a few items, one being a PlayStation 5. Well it was in my Amazon wishlist for the birds. I am not asking for a PlayStation and the other 2 items that was in there. (I can’t remember the other two items)
I went to add something to my wishlist and saw those in there and I about died. No it wasn’t in there on purpose, I promise. They were watching it to see if it was going to go on sale on Black Friday and they clicked the favorite button and it put it right in my wishlist. I deleted it. I’m very sorry about that. It was a complete mistake.

Day 3!!

F10 cleaner is veterinary recommended and an EPA approved hospital grade disinfectant. It is used in many of the world’s leading veterinary hospitals and zoological institutions as well as by leading reptile, avian and exotic pet keepers. F10 disinfectant is widely recognized as the most effective and economical total spectrum disinfectant on the market.

F10 is non-corrosive, non-toxic, non-irritating and aldehyde free so has no adverse effects on people, animals, equipment or surfaces. It has been proven effective at recommended concentrations against all types of bacteria, fungi and spores including MRSA, avian influenza, psittacine beak and feather disease, canine parvovirus, e.coli, aspergillus and a host of others. It is an excellent product for achieving a high level of biosecurity and poses no hazard to yourself or your animals when used at recommended concentrations.

F10 Veterinary Disinfectant can be used in a wide range of applications — disinfecting cages, water bowls, floors, racks, shelving, perches and toys, food preparation areas, inside incubators, washing eggs and decontaminating hands.

F10 can also be applied as a fog or fine spray to mist rooms to eradicate airborne microbes and to stop cross contamination.

F10 can be sprayed on and left to disinfect after cleaning with no need to rinse off. Unlike many other products F10 stays active providing an ongoing residual effect.

Always have this on hand! 🙌

Hello Monday!

Guys we are in desperate need of food here at the rescue. I am currently feeding over 160 birds! Why do I have that many birds you ask?? Well unfortunately everyone wants a super tame bird (like a puppy in a bird body). We all know when you rescue a birdie, we have no idea of their past 9 times out of 10. So that is why I have so many birds, plus I have a lot of parakeets. They fly free in my aviary. Unfortunately no one wants these precious angels! More for me to love! ❤️🙌

So with that being said, if you are able to send some food for the birdies here, it would be greatly appreciated. I am so grateful for all of you!

Thank you guys so much!

Importance of Electrolytes for Parrots

Electrolyte Mixture and
Use for Parrots

Electrolyte Usage

Stressed or Recovering Parrots

Provide a fresh mix daily for up to five consecutive days. 💊

Ensure a second, unsupplemented water source is also available. 💦

Monitor the bird's condition closely and consult a vet if symptoms don't improve, as electrolytes are supportive care and not a cure for disease. ⚕️

Routine or Regular Use

Provide a fresh mix for up to three days, repeat monthly. 💊

Always make sure there is a separate, clean water source available. 💦

After a few days of use, switch back to plain water. 💦

Environmental and
Routine Stressors

Inadequate Cage:
A cage that is too small, dirty, or lacking in perches, toys, and hiding spots can cause stress.

Poor Location:
A cage in a high-traffic, noisy, or an area filled with commotion can make a bird feel insecure.

Sudden Changes:
Moving the cage, a change in routine, visiting the vet, or a new home can be very stressful.
(I use this mixture for every surrender for 3 days) All adoptees should provide these electrolytes for 3 days after going to a new home.

Lack of Sleep:
Not getting enough uninterrupted sleep in a quiet, dark space can lead to stress.

Environmental Threats:
A bird may feel stressed by seeing unfamiliar wildlife, other pets, or children. (Ex: taking them outside the first time)

Social and Mental
Stressors

Boredom and loneliness:
Birds are intelligent and social, and prolonged periods of isolation or lack of mental stimulation can lead to stress.

Lack of interaction:
Parrots need daily interaction and time outside their cage.

Insufficient enrichment:
A lack of toys, interaction, or opportunities to forage or bathe can cause stress and frustration.

Physical and Dietary Stressors

Poor diet:
An inadequate or unbalanced diet can lead to stress and health problems.

Health issues:
Underlying health problems, like infections, can cause stress.

Overcrowding:
Living with too many other birds in one space is a major stressor.

Addressing these issues and using an electrolyte mixture after stressor occurs is crucial for maintaining a bird's physical and mental health.

Picture of DIY mixture below.
You can also use unflavored Pedialyte and other over the counter parrot electrolyte powder or liquid. Always keep this on hand.
