Here's our new class of Hamilton Hounds' New Leash on Life prison dogs. The inmate trainers are excited for this wonderful group of sweet dogs. Please share because they are all up for adoption. I am so grateful for the opportunity to be their trainer.

How you can help get JUSTICE for SWEETPEA. In the few cases when charges of animal cruelty actually get to court, perpetrators often get off easy or altogether simply because their victims are not human. Here is a chance for everyone who wants to see this change to take a stand. I can't think of another case that deserves our attention more right now. Unless citizens (also known as voters) visibly show their support, nothing will change. If you can't attend the rally at the courthouse, at least send an e-mail. See details in the letter.

Important info about Sweetpea’s case!
This is the press release we sent to newsrooms, and other media sources. Thank you Melissa for banging this out!

The modern world of positive, force-free dog training is banding together against so-called BALANCED TRAINERS. The term “balanced dog training” is often misunderstood to mean taking a holistic approach to teaching dogs. In reality “balanced” includes the use of both aversive and non-aversive training methods. Aversive methods require some level of punishment, pain and/or fear and aversive equipment includes items like prong collars, choke chains, and shock collars. "Caveat Emptor" is a latin phrase meaning "Buyer Beware." Before committing, ask your prospective dog trainer about his/her method of training and equipment recommended. A source to locate a trainer who adheres to modern training methods in your area is the Association of Professional Dog Trainers or www.APDT.org When you select someone still confirm they believe in positive, force-free training without aversive methods or equipment. If you see something you don't like, quit that trainer!

Balanced dog training is anything but as negative reinforcement can heavily outweigh any positive reinforcement in a dog's mind.

Our Story

We began our small, but dedicated organization July 26, 2012, incorporated not-for-profit in Florida and IRS Tax Exempt under Rule 501(c)(3). We’ve been able to help a lot of pets and people, but on a very limited basis without an Animal Shelter in Hamilton County. Still don’t have County Animal Services and Shelter, but the humane society has just been donated a small building and fenced area to house Hamilton Humane Society. We’re limited to the Jennings area, but have big plans for Rabies Vaccination Clinics, Programs in Schools and Youth Organizations, particularly our “Be Safe with Dogs” presentation, and much more. All activities will be published on our page so we hope everyone interested will follow us.
