🐶 Sophia’s Comeback Story! 🩺❤️
Meet Sophia, an 8-year-old sweetheart who came to us feeling tired and looking a little more round in the middle. On April 14th, she saw Dr. Hinck, who quickly discovered her belly was full of fluid—nearly 2 liters! 😳
A few days (and a couple more fluid taps) later, diagnostics revealed the underlying cause: a granulosa cell tumor, a rare ovarian tumor that can mess with hormones and, in Sophia’s case, led to massive abdominal effusion.
🧠 Vet Fact: These tumors fall under the umbrella of s*x cord stromal tumors and can cause signs like prolonged heat cycles, vulvar enlargement, and even severe anemia and low white blood cells due to high estrogen levels. Most are benign, but they’re sneaky—and surgery is key.
On April 28th, Dr. Hinck and Dr. Webb teamed up for Sophia’s spay and tumor removal. It was a big procedure—they drained over 3 liters of fluid during surgery and carefully removed the enlarged right o***y and cystic uterus. Thanks to teamwork and a whole lot of suction, surgery went beautifully and Sophia recovered like a champ. 💪💉
📋 Pathology confirmed a s*x cord stromal tumor, likely benign, with no evidence of spread. That means Sophia’s long-term outlook is excellent.
She just came back for staple removal, and guess what? No more fluid, no more belly bloat—just a happy, healthy, tail-wagging pup. 🐾💕
Shoutout to Sophia’s amazing family for being so proactive, and to Dr. Hinck and Dr. Webb for their sharp surgical skills. Cases like this remind us how powerful teamwork can be in vet med. 💙
