Registration for Train Like Heck closes in one hour, and when it does it won't reopen until December, and I want to use this last post to say something I mean from the bottom of my heart.

I love this sport. I love the people in it, and I built this program because I genuinely believe that most of the things that feel hard and stuck and permanent are actually very fixable when you have the right information and someone pointing you in the right direction. I want that for every team that has ever walked off a course knowing something went wrong and not knowing how to fix it. 💙

"I've been training the wrong thing for six months."

I was working with a student whose dog kept dropping bars, and she had been at it for months, trying different things, going back to foundations, adjusting her approach, and nothing was sticking, and she was starting to wonder if her dog was just a bar knocker and that was that. 😔

So I watched her video, and within about thirty seconds I could see it — the thing she couldn't see from inside her own training — and it wasn't a jumping problem at all, it was a handling problem. Her dog was responding exactly to what she was cueing, and the bar was coming down at precisely the moment her body was telling her dog to shift his weight and he was trying to avoid smashing in to her. 👀

When I told her what I saw there was a long pause, and then she said "oh my god, I've been training the wrong thing for six months."

Not because she wasn't trying, not because she wasn't dedicated, but because she was inside her own training and couldn't see what was right there on the video, and nobody had looked closely enough to catch it. 💔

That's the thing about feedback that gets undersold — it's not just about someone telling you what to do differently, it's about someone seeing what you can't see, and sometimes that one thing changes everything. 💥

I want to tell you something I don't talk about enough. 💙

I didn't always know what I was doing, and I mean that genuinely, in the very real sense that there was a long period where I was training hard, competing regularly, putting in the hours, and not really understanding why things weren't clicking the way I wanted them to.

I had a dog — my first Border Collie, Finnick — who was willing to do anything I asked of him, and I spent years asking him to do things in ways that weren't quite right, not because I didn't care, but because I genuinely didn't know what I didn't know, and I didn't have someone consistently watching and telling me what they saw. 💚

We figured it out eventually, Fin and I, and I am so proud of what we built together, but I also know it took longer than it needed to and was harder than it needed to be, and that the thing that would have helped most was exactly what I didn't have — a clear plan, targeted exercises, and someone watching my training and pointing out the thing I couldn't see from inside it.

That's why I built Train Like Heck, and that's why The In-Gate exists, and that's why On the Line is capped at 10 people.

I built this for the handler who is working hard and not quite getting there, for the dog who is capable of more than they've been able to show, for the team that just needs the right information and a clear starting point and someone in their corner who will actually look at their training and tell them the truth. 🐾

I want to talk about On the Line one more time before registration closes tomorrow night. 👀

On the Line is capped at 10 people total, and once those spots are gone they are gone until December, and with registration closing tomorrow at midnight the window is genuinely closing fast. 🕑

Here's what the feedback actually looks like: a detailed breakdown of exactly what's happening in your training, why it's happening, and what to do about it, delivered within 24 hours Monday through Thursday, every week for six months, from someone who will turn the camera around and demo the exercise herself when words aren't enough. 🎥
