The 4th of July is the single biggest day of the year for lost pets!! The flashes & sounds can cause panic & they sometimes instinctually try to "escape"!!

4th of July tips to help keep pets safe:
❤️🤍💙❤️🤍💙❤️🤍💙❤️🤍💙

☆ Bringing pets indoors during the celebrations & making sure all exits are secure, (windows too) can reduce escapes & ensure the safety of your pets. ❤️

☆ As always make sure they have access to plenty of water, and possibly some extra " hiding" places, if they have to stay outside. ( A blanket over some boxes, fences, etc.) Turning on outside lights can help reduce the constant lighting up, that can cause fear in our little furry friends. 🩵
☆ Staying calm & confident yourself, will help to keep pets stress lower, as well. White noise such as calming music, tv, apps with ocean waves and fans may be helpful to distract them from the " booms". Sometimes wrapping in a lightweight blanket, can make them feel more secure.
☆Maybe plan a special playtime during the displays to keep them focused on something, so they are not "waiting & wondering" when the next scary sound will happen. Safe spaces, such as a corner, or closet, a smaller room, can be helpful. You can put a blanket over chairs or table, a box, etc., which can help them feel more secure, or hidden.
☆Alcohol is very toxic to pets, so if you are having get togethers, ask guests to make sure nothing is left unattended, ( some pets will seek it out & drink from cups, or bottles if left on the ground.)🍇🍺🍷🍬🍭🧅☕️🍪 Grapes, onions, coffee, chocolate & artifical sweeteners, ( also in some candies & gum are also toxic to pets).
☆Please Do not feed other people's pets, when visiting, as they may have food allergies, or you could trigger pancreatitis! 🐕
☆It's best to try calming treatments before the celebration, just to make sure, they are helpful. All pets absorb & react to different treatments in different ways. 🐈
☆Micro chips or tagging devices are helping in retrieving lost pets. Make sure I.D. tags have a current phone number. 🫶
☆ Glow sticks are similar to toys and chew sticks, but are not safe for pets! Sparklers and used fireworks can burn sensitive paws and noses, and can smell like something cooked or grilled! Since some breeds will ingest anything, make sure to have a designated trash for these items immediately after use!
As intelligent as our furry companions are, they do not think logically and depend on us to protect them from danger & accidents when possible. 🥰

We are launching our annual coat collection for Louisville's homeless community, with delivery set for Saturday, January 10th, At the annual Cabowabo coat party.
