She loves people and is happiest when giving or receiving affection. Unbeknownst to her owner, little Rose hitched a ride with him from Oregon, WI to his Army base in Madison. He wasn’t aware she was in his wheel well for the whole drive, or that after he arrived in Madison she jumped into another person’s wheel well and hitched a ride to Jefferson. Fortunately after arriving in Jefferson, this person heard Rose meowing and saw her come out of his wheel well. As it turns out, he works with Rose’s owner at the army base and, long story slightly shorter, her owner is coming to the shelter tomorrow to take her home. We were happy to care for Rose after her big “road trip” and we wish her a bright (and less adventurous) future!

Update: Nalin and Kunal have received lots of applications and we're working through them as fast as we can!

Today’s featured pets are Peony, Nalin, Lupin, and Kunal. These litter mates are each looking for a home of their own. They are a bit apprehensive at first, but once they feel comfortable they are extremely playful and full of kitten energy. It’s ideal for kittens to live with another kitten or cat so they have a playmate and snuggle buddy to grow up with. If you don’t already have a feline family member who would enjoy living with a furry friend, you can always adopt one of these babies with a sibling or other shelter pal!

The shelter is currently open by appointment only with an approved application. View our available pets and access an adoption application at www.hsjc-wis.com

Today's featured pet is Winnie, who came to us after her owner passed away. She was very depressed about losing her person and it took a while for her to warm up to her shelter caregivers. However, now that she's feeling more comfortable she's shown herself to be an incredibly sweet and loving lap cat. Her signature move is to climb on you, place her paws on your shoulders, and give you kisses. Winnie will need a little time to adjust to her new home but once she settles in she'll be an extremely affectionate and loyal companion. If she could talk, she'd tell you that all she wants is to be somebody's baby again.

Reilly

Today’s featured pet is a special 2 year old boy named Reilly. He’s a sweet guy who was found discarded and alone on a bike path when he was just 4 weeks old. Not only was he too young to be away from his mother and fend for himself, he also had a broken leg and wouldn't have survived if someone hadn't found him. This horrible experience in Reilly's very young puppyhood left him with some fears and behavioral challenges. He is very fearful here at the shelter. It took a while for him to feel safe and happy with his primary caregiver and a couple other people, but he is still afraid of people he doesn’t know. His fear is not just about being at the shelter and he will initially be fearful in his new home too. Reilly is looking for a very dog knowledgeable adopter and needs an adults only home where he will be the only animal. He must also have a fenced-in yard. He is not suitable for an adopter who doesn't have a lot of knowledge about canine behavior and a schedule that gives them time to work one on one with him. When he feels safe Reilly is super affectionate and loves to cuddle and be petted. He can get over stimulated during play and doesn’t understand or respect other dogs' signals, so he cannot live with other dogs and cannot go to a dog park. He has a lot of energy and really enjoys going for long-line sniffing walks and his favorite toy is a frisbee. He has the potential to have dog friends to go on walks with but this will take time and training. Reilly’s adopter will be required to meet him a few times at the shelter before he can go home with them. He won't be an easy dog, but with the right person he can be a great dog. If you are very dog savvy and can commit to working with him and helping him feel safe and more confident, you could be the special person he needs!

Today's featured pet is Yoda. He's a super friendly and playful guy who keeps getting overlooked, perhaps because he's an adult black cat. (Yes, black dogs and cats can still have a harder time finding homes.) This handsome ebony boy can get a little overzealous when playing, so his adopter shouldn't use their hands or feet as toys but instead direct him to appropriate playthings like kicker and wand toys. We think Yoda would love a home with another playful feline whose energy level matches his own!

Miss Dilly's first few days in her new house 😸
Here’s an update of some HSJC alumni. Both our seniors have birthdays in April and had great vet checkups. Tootsie (Ragdoll) is now 22. She was adopted from HSJC when she was 18 1/2 and is quite a sweetheart and her checkup was Great! Louis (tabby) is now 14. He was adopted when he was 8. He had labs run and all is great for him as well.
Anyone missing these two in the Lake Mills area?
It only took about 2 seconds for Raya (formerly known as Vortex) to make herself right at home!
On Friday I got to bring home my new buddy, Gus. He's settling in just fine, testing zoomies in the kitchen, and finding all the best nap spots. Thank you to HSJC and Jeff Okazaki for rescuing him and his 40 friends!
LOST DOG - Green Bay Went missing on March 2nd on S Jackson and Emilie Streets. Last sighted on March 4th at South Bay Marina and Green Bay Yacht Club. Thank you for any help.
I just saw a news story about all the animals you just saved. Do you have an Amazon list to share so I can send supplies to you guys?
Carl aka Jam is still doing awesome. He has been a great addition to our family! He is very spoiled loved & brings laugher to us daily. We can even pick him up now for short cuddles.
