I 1000% recommend Jean Luc’s program if you have a horse in need of training/ rehab. They receive amazing care and attention at his farm, and it is a wonderful, peaceful environment.

Leena stayed with him for two months for kissing spine rehabilitation and is now sound/ rideable again. This would not have been possible without his program!

Every horse deserves to be heard.
Training Opening Available

One stall has opened in Jean-Luc Cornille’s training program at our farm.

We take in a small number of horses for individualized work, soundness rehabilitation, loss of performance, movement problems, or refinement of higher-level work. Many of the horses who come here arrive after owners have been told there are no good options left. Our focus is restoring correct biomechanics and coordination so the horse can move comfortably and perform again.

Horses stay here for a period of training and development. Owners are always welcome to visit and learn, but you do not need to live nearby or take regular lessons for your horse to benefit from the program. When the horse is ready, we help you understand how to continue the work at home.

If you would like to talk about whether your horse may be a good candidate, please send a private message or email us. [email protected]

What is your horse’s roll quality telling you about the way they feel?

Not every horse can roll all the way over. Depending on confirmation differences, such as high withers, some prefer to get back up and switch sides.

However, if you know your horse has the ability, noticing if it becomes more difficult for them can indicate potential issues in their back.

My horse Leena has had the last three weeks off in a small paddock due to a leg injury. Limited movement combined with favoring her front left leg caused her to develop some stiffness through her neck and back. This was visible in the way she moved, and I was also able to feel the increased tone while assessing her for a massage.

Today was her third day returning to the “in-hand” exercises we learned at the Science of Motion farm with Jean Luc.

The first day we only worked for about 8 minutes. She has a favorite patch of grass where she never fails to roll, so after the exercise I took her over there and observed that she could only roll on one side.

The next day, she tried multiple times to gain enough momentum to roll all the way, and made it over one time.

Today, you can see the improvement! She flips back and forth to each side with ease!

Observing your horse’s regular patterns of behavior can give you lots of insight when something might be bothering them.

I hoped that returning to work would relieve her stiffness, especially since she has kissing spine. The improvement in her ability to roll confirms it! This is a great indication that we are on the right track again, and she is feeling better.

Can your horse roll all the way over?

I hope everyone has been staying warm this week! ❄️🥶❄️

My gang has been enjoying their complementary warm water bucket service every morning 😆🙏

We had to postpone several massages until after the freeze, thank you to everyone for being so flexible! See you all this week! 😊🐎

It was such a wonderful opportunity to audit this clinic with Linda Parelli in Ocala last week! There was a big focus on putting the horses' needs first, and the changes that resulted were amazing to watch! It made me reflect a lot on refining the focus in our communication with our horses - they are so sensitive and perceptive that there is really no limit to what you can achieve in that realm 😊🐴

Happy Halloween from the Heading West gang! 👻🎃👻
Sputnik the “Little Spook” was such a hit with his herd mates that, by request, they all ended up trying on his ghost costume! Leena was particularly enthused 🤣🙏

October has flown by- but I’m currently booking the last slots on my November schedule if you would like to “treat” your horse to a sports massage! 🍁🐎🍁

Send me a message to grab a spot! 😊

Leena is progressing slowly but steadily with her kissing spine rehab, and we are both learning a lot 🙏
-
We are up to doing 25 minutes of ground exercises + 7-10 minutes of riding every day.
-
Her strength and comfort levels have increased drastically. Just four short months ago, she could not bear any weight on her back without a violent reaction.
-
It may not look like much yet, but this video shows her happy to carry a rider. I am asking her to adjust her balance and slow down through my core muscle tone, and she is responding without the use of the reins.
-
It was not long ago that I thought she may never be rideable again- to see the changes she has made and her willing demeanor return has been incredible. 💜
-
We owe it all to the “Science of Motion” training program!
-
(Extra note: We are not using side reins in the lunging clips. This is the "Decarpentry" method of running the lunge line through a loose ring attached to the saddle. I control the length of the line/ tension with my hand. I never use fixed training aids or devices on her 🙂)

Impressive photo sequence of Sterling showing off his athletic abilities today 🤣

I call this the “fall weather effect.”

Some days you do groundwork, other days, you find yourself flying a horse kite… 🐎

Sterling is very high-spirited and playful, I love his never ending enthusiasm for whatever we do 😆🙏
