This information is from a Cackle Hatchery article linked in the comments. They pulled some of the info from the Livestock Conservancy. But I’m curious what ratios other breeders are using?

This season was very low and the hen didn't get overused. I think turkeys are different from chickens in this aspect because the hen has to get herself in place for breeding. Roosters will just grab ahold of a hen and jump on. I am sure it can happen, but none of my toms have overbred their hens even when it was 1:1.

I may have to go to a higher ratio next season.

Schnauzers were first developed in Germany as sturdy farm dogs known for guarding livestock, herding animals, and keeping farms free of rats.
Here’s how, along with their keen intelligence, wiry fur, and distinctive bearded appearance, they eventually became one of the most easily recognized dog breeds in the world.

Some Schnauzer owners swear their dog became happier, calmer, and more confident after getting a second dog.

Others say adding another dog simply created double the barking, double the supervision, and double the opinions. 😄

And honestly… both sides probably have a point.

Some Schnauzers seem to thrive with companionship.
They play together, follow each other around the house, nap near each other, and seem more relaxed knowing another dog is nearby.

But other Schnauzers clearly prefer being the only dog in charge.

That’s what makes this question so interesting.

Because Schnauzers have such strong personalities, the answer probably depends on:
🐾 temperament
🐾 age
🐾 energy level
🐾 socialization
🐾 and whether your Schnauzer enjoys sharing attention in the first place 😄

The 2 in the photo are Daisy and Samurai — 2 of our Mini Schnauzers, they definitely keep each other entertained.

But we’ve seen Schnauzers who absolutely love having a canine sibling… and others who act deeply offended by the entire concept.

So now we’re curious about YOUR experience.

Do Schnauzers or dogs in general, do better with another dog at home?
